Oh, god. It appears that Sir George Martin is now the late Sir George Martin.
Needless to say, I am saddened by this. Few loom as large in the legend of the Beatles as Sir George Martin. He had a nice ninety-year run and it’s a shame to see him go.
I'm Necko. I'm like Ringo except I wear necklaces.
I'm also ewe2 on weekends.
Most likely to post things that make you go hmm... 2015, 2016, 2017.

Incredibly sad, tears rolling down cheeks, to wake to news of the death of the remarkable George Martin at the age of 90. His passing deserves its own thread.
In many ways, the true “Fifth Beatle” (no other musician played on as many Beatles recordings as George), his importance to their success, and the genius of their recordings, can never be underestimated.
Whatever EMI politics may have played a part in him signing the Boys , it was a fortuitous meeting which led to a remarkably creative partnership between them. The Beatles would not, could not, have been the group we all know and love without the genius of George up in the control room.
He was a remarkable man, very humble, but a giant of British music in the second half of the 20th Century.
“Is there anything you don’t like?”
No, George, apart from that tie, you did us and the Boys proud.
This is a sad and reluctant parting…
Much love to Giles and the rest of his family on such unwanted day.
Rest in peace, you wonderful man!
EDIT: Maybe a mod could move across those comments that have appeared in the general “Rest in Peace” thread?

Very sad news indeed – this has been an awful start to the year for deaths among the musical fraternity; and now it has become even worse.
What a tremendous career he had – which is something to celebrate.
Condolences to his family.

I’ll post this here just in case it’s true rather than clog up the dedicated thread.
Now there are rumours that Ringo’s Twitter feed was hacked – so a number of sites are trying to determine if it is true or not and Wikipedia is having an editorial war over reporting it.
Amazing how the net can be so handy at times and so ghoulish at others.

RIP Sir George Martin.
There’s no denying that you were a legend, and you helped bring so much happiness to the world through your work, which is still just as relevant.
Thoughts and prayers with the family. God bless.

I’ve just gotten out of bed and did not know he had passed yet. I find myself fighting back tears, now. Rest in peace, Sir George, and thank you for everything you’ve given us…

As he said himself “I’ve had a bloody good innings”, but few have contributed so much. I’m going to listen to some Goon songs, and whistle my cares away walking backwards for Christmas Bluebottle blues.

The older I get, the more I appreciate what a phenomenon The Beatles actually were.
When you think every band has a set line-up, which although can change from time to time, you don’t get people associated with them as official members, which makes it more incredible that there was always a case for a fifth Beatle. Theres even a wiki page dedicated to it.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/…..fth_Beatle
But, for me, when it comes down to the music, Sir George has to fill that role. He was Algernon to the Fab’s Bash Street Kids.
RIP, Sir George.
