John for sure was catholic because on the anthology documentary after the uproar of the ‘bigger than Jesus’ controversy, which i think he should never said that, but the band was getting so famous that it was a fact, it was just his opinion, he says:
”That image of Anti-Christ is incorrect. I’m a catholic religious person just like you.”
He was giving his opinion, that’s it. And he regrets when they go to the USA for what became their last tour, August 1966, where the controversy was, and expanded through all America and all world, although on Liverpool appeared this on March 1966 and nothing happened.
He was an independent person, unique, with his own opinions, he didn’t get someother opinions, it was himself, saying what he believed is truth. It’s my favorite Beatle. I think that when he entered with God up there, i think he was ok, i mean, he regret of that commentary controversial, i think he’s singing for God and all up there.
We miss you John.
Let me take you down 'cause I'm going to...Strawberry Fields.

I, too, am a Christian, but not so bothered by it. And I’m not surprised he said it either. That is just how John is…
Maybe this conversation happened.
John arriving to Heaven being welcomed by a very tall Jesus.
Jesus (looking down) : “So, you were the one who said you and your mates were bigger than I?”
John (looking up) “I said bigger, not taller”
Hah! Very funny. I’m not a Christian or very religious at all (I was raised Catholic though, just like ol’ Paulie) and religion didn’t play an enormous part in my life, as much as my parents tried to force it on us. I can see how it could be considered offensive, but, I find it rings quite true.
Ha! Funny! Your parents raised you Catholic and try to force it on you too!

That awkward moment when you thank a really old post accidentally (post 13).
This is an interesting topic, wonder what our current Forumpudlians think.

I thought somebody had started a new thread on religion and thought “Oh Christ” (amn’t I such a blasphemer? STONE HER!). If there’s anything you shouldn’t talk about on an online forum or in a place with loads of strangers it’s religion, politics and sport (as my Irish teacher nicely puts it)

Yip. Discussions on religion usually end in arguments and i really don’t want to have to step in and calm the fires and i doubt the others mods do either.
We could just turn it into a ‘Life of Brian’ video clip thread.

Speaking of which aren’t an online forum and a place full of strangers the same thing? For all ye know I’m a 60 year old Swiss man called Jurgen who is a Rolling Stones fan.
I wholly support the Life of Brian idea… The Judean People’s Front are a bunch of w*****s.

I wouldn’t want to discuss our religions in case someone would end up offended (although this is a very mature and understanding group of people), but this is about The Beatles’ religious views.

@AppleScruffJunior, what about the Judean Popular People’s Front?

I think this thread is to discuss the Beatles religious ideas so I think it could stay as is and just keep it to the Beatles religion views

Well I’d rather be on the safe side, so I probably won’t be frequenting this thread anyway.

Yeah, I totally see you as a 60 year old Swiss man named Jurgen who’s a Rolling Stones fan. Who (occasionally) fangirls over George Harrison and talks about her his Leaving Certificate. Why does that not make a convincing picture?…

‘He’s not the Messiah he’s a very naughty boy’
I think John was a bit of a hypocrite regarding some things………aren’t we all?
I mean the fact that the bible is the most shop-lifted book in the world speaks volumes…….?
But back to John……In ‘God ‘ (a concept by which we measure pain’ apparently), ….. he tells us all the things he doesn’t believe in…….In Imagine he pines for a world without religion and heaven and hell and so on…….. But I understand he wouldn’t make a move unless the stars were in the right alignment. The only thing he says he believe in is himself…..and Yoko
I wouldn’t worry what religion he was or wasn’t. It shouldn’t affect anyone else……Each to his own
As Bible’ers yourselves…… Did you all know unicorns are mentioned 5 times in the bible? And that 12% of Americans think that ‘Joan of Arc’ was Noah’s wife?
