It's interesting to read that John hated how the songs were produced. I wonder what made him change, the fact that he was more experienced or that he met other producers.
Being unhappy with George Martin's work sounds impossible but it's John, so it doesn't surprise me. John didn't work again with Martin, did he?
(Man I need to get one of those good books you recommend Joe. I'll have them in my Amazon wish list for myself)

I would have surprised if he could listen to them like a fan. I finished the first interview with Jack Douglas (from which that quote was taken) and he went on to say that John would have loved to all those Beatles songs again, but that he was very proud of his band. From the interview, I was under the impression that he didn't like the time it took to produce them, but it doesn't look like there was a major difference in time to make later Beatles albums vs. Double Fantasy .
Off topic: I'm not seeing a link to your articles on John's solo work on the front page Joe. I thought they were ready for prime time. Also –
- DIscographies from selected countries around the world.

If those truly were his last words, that is now my favorite Beatle quote of all time. Thanks, Sunii.
His last words were actually “Yes I Do” after he got shot and a police officer asked him if he knew who he was.

I don't believe George Harrison was shot to death.

JOHN: [Julian] likes Queen, though I haven't heard them yet. He turns
me on to music. I call him and he says, “Have you heard Queen?” and I
say “No, what is it?” I've heard of them. I've seen the guy… the one
who looks like Hitler playing a piano… Sparks? I've seen Sparks on
American TV. So I call him and say—– “Have you seen Sparks? Hitler on
the piano?” and he says, “No. They are alright. But have you see
Queen?” and I say “What's Queen?” and then he tells me. His age group is
hipper to music… at 11 I was aware of music, but not too much. “

Ringo:(When asked why he gets more fan mail) “I don't know. I suppose it's because more people write to me.”
Paul: “I feel that if I said anything about John, I would
have to sit here for five days and say it all. Or I don't want to say
anything”
John: (When asked where they got there idea for the haircuts) “Where'd you get the idea for your's?”
George: “The Beatles exist apart from my self. I am not really Beatle George. Beatle George is like a suit or shirt that I once wore on occasion and until the end of my life, people may see that shirt and mistake it for me”
"Hoop? That isn't a hoop, It's a lethal weapon, have you got a license for it?" -Ringo

“To the toppermost of the poppermost!”
Here is John's quote from Anthology…
“When The Beatles were depressed, thinking, the group is going nowhere, and this is a shitty deal, and we're in a shitty dressing room…I'd say, 'Where are we going, fellas?' They'd go, 'To the top, Johnny!' And I'd say,'Where's that, fellas?' and they'd say, 'To the toppermost of the poppermost!' and I'd say, 'Right!' Then we'd all cheer up.”
“…When I was a Beatle, I thought, 'We're the best f*****g group in the goddamn world!' And believing that is what made us what we were. It was just a matter of time before everybody else caught on.”
I love that whole quote.
Other ones I'd add:
“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”
“Nobody's ever given peace a complete chance. Gandhi tried it, Martin Luther King tried it, but they were shot.” I get chills every time I hear this one.
I think it's great you're going through a phase, and I'm awfully glad it'll all be over in a couple of days

I agree. Really, take any quote from the Playboy Interview of 1980, which can be seen here.

Definitely, that interview is the saddest thing. It's just the little things like “Julian and I will have a relationship in the future.”
And similarly, lyrics to Beautiful Boy, like “I can hardly wait / To see you come of age.”
Things like that are heartbreaking.

That one made me laugh. That is a fruity song. But Paul's fruitiness is one of my favourite parts of him!

There's a 'like' page for that one on Facebook, but I had to hide it because it kept liking stupid stuff that was clogging up my Wall.

Of course there is no question of us splitting up. There are some people who would like to see our friendship break up, but this is a physical and spiritual impossibility. The thing people don’t understand about the Beatles is that we’ve known each other for so long and our level of communication is something others don’t understand. We are all influencing each other. I don’t question anything John does anymore. I know why he does it. I understand. – George Harrison in April 1969
Asked by an interviewer if he had any unfilled ambitions, Ringo responded, “My one ambition was to have been in the audience when the Beatles played. It must have been great.”
You meet one of the boys and it’s great. He will be charming.
You meet two of them together , and you feel this chemistry you may not have felt before.
You are in a room with three of them, and you can’t quite explain the effect it is having on you, there’s something otherworldly. They’re not like others.
You have all four Beatles together at the same time, in the same room, and you know you’re seeing and feeling something you’ve never quite felt before. There is this idea that there are the four of them together and it can’t be defined. You’ll ALWAYS be on the outside looking in. The bond, charisma, wit, physicality and this aura around and about them is something only the four of them can feel and experience. – George Martin

This isn’t a quote from or about the Beatles but to me it read like it could be, especially regarding John?

These quotes fill me with so much sorrow for Paul in 1970. Imagine going from that to feeling totally cut off from those friends. It’s devastating.
