Q: Who sang the “ahhs” on A Day In The Life
A: Richard Lush confirmed it was McCartney. While sounding a bit like John, it was our dear Macca all along. I always thought it was George though
While Geoff Emerick maintained it was John… If answers to contentious and argued over questions were as easy “so-and-so” said, there would be no contentious and argued over questions. They become so because different players and participants offer differing memories that often don’t agree with others.
You cannot take a debate as complicated as the “ahhs” and dismiss all other opinions with “Richard Lush confirmed…”. Others who were there contradict him.
Hmmm… then we can safely conclude it was ringo

Agreed, probably best not to make it seem like there’s a clear answer to these kinds of hotly debated questions, especially when eyewitnesses contradict each other.

It’s reported in some books they asked Noel Coward to be involved as well, to try and heal the rift between them. His part went unused in the end but if you listen closely (it’s more audible on the bootlegs and outtakes) you can hear him exhale smoke from his cigarette immediately after Paul sings “had a smoke”. There are a ton of little jokes and touches thru-out ‘A Day In The Life ’, its fun to discover them.

Inspired by the Baker’s Dozen Thread.
Is ‘Help !’ the album with the least fade-out endings with only one, ‘Ticket To Ride ‘? Do any compilations have only songs with cold endings, or even all fade-outs?
‘Pepper’ is the instant contender but that has two fading songs, ‘GM GM’ and ‘FAH’.
Why do these questions come to mind?

I think Lucy in the Sky… has a fade-out as well

What are the albums, either solo or as a band, where the album title is not the song title but features in the song lyrics? Was listening to ‘That Day Is Done’ which contains the lyric “she sprinkles Flowers In The Dirt ” which is where the album title comes from and then there is ‘Kisses On The Bottom ‘ which I’m sure appears in one of the songs, tho I cannot remember which song it is. Hard to think of many others if any.
All these damn questions!!!

The “Kisses On The Bottom ” line is in the song I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter.
I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter
And make believe it came from you
I’m gonna write words oh so sweet
They’re gonna knock me off my feet
A lot of Kisses On The Bottom , I’ll be glad I got ’em.
And Paul has album titles that aren’t to be found in a song title or in the lyrics. Examples: Egypt Station, Electric Arguments, Memory Almost Full , Press To Play (press is there but not the “to play” phrase), Chaos And Creation In The Backyard , Choba B CCCP , Back To The Egg , and of course the McCartney albums.

Walls And Bridges never had that phrase in the lyrics. Extra Texture I don’t believe is said either.

Don’t know if I wasn’t clear but I was wondering about album titles that do feature in song lyrics but are not song titles. There are a ton of releases that have album titles not in the lyrics.

So you’re talking about an instance like Steely Dan’s Dr. Wu off Katy Lied, where they say “Katy Lies, you can see it in her eyes.”

Kind of as that is “Katy lies” and not ‘Katy Lied’.
In the song ‘That Day Is Done’ Paul sings “she sprinkles Flowers In The Dirt that’s when a thrill becomes a hurt” and that gives us the name of the album, ‘Flowers In The Dirt ‘. As AG said, ‘Kisses On The Bottom ‘ comes from the line “A lot of Kisses On The Bottom , I’ll be glad I got ’em.” from ‘I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter’. That’s what I am wondering; are there any others in the Beatles world, solo or together?

Another random question I doubt anyone can answer.
Is it possible to go thru every Beatles/solo catalogue and find lyrics where starting with the letter ‘a’ you work thru alphabetically using the last letter? What I mean is that the ‘a’ lyric ends with the letter ‘b’, ‘b’ starts the next one and that ends with ‘c’, ‘c’ ends with ‘d’ etc right thro to z? I highly doubt it is since you need words ending in q, z and j but it came into my head.

Is there a lyric starting with xylophone, x-ray or similar as X is then covered thanks to Yoko’s ‘Open Your Box’? Paul yodelling the title ‘zoo gang’ whilst Linda shows her brilliance on the one-handed bagpipe helps the case as well.

I think it would be easer with Dylan, i’ve already got a few Qs and Z’s in mind. Maybe i’ll challenge myself to write a lyric starting with the letter X. I can’t think of any.
