It is likely that the mono print of the film was a fold-down as the film was released in stereo at the time, @Dark Overlord. However, that said, it should be noted that the film soundtrack was recorded using two mono Nagra tape machines (Nagra didn’t release their first stereo tape machine until 1971) so, while they may have used EMI stereo recordings from after the boys moved to Savile Row for the soundtrack (and I don’t know that they did), the stereo print was made mainly – if not wholly – from mono recordings.

And look what I found researching this!

Reporter: Beethoven figures in one of your songs. What do you think of Beethoven?
Ringo Starr: He’s great. Especially his poetry.

Is the piano on Lovely Rita accelerated, or normal speed?

Everything, and I do mean everything, was subjected to vari-speed of one sort or another, @50yearslate.

You have two pianos.

The first, played by Paul, recorded as part of the rhythm track on 23 February was recorded at 50 cycles-per-second (cps). Once the rhythm track had had a reduction mix, it was slowed down to 46-and-a-half cps – with a vocal that had been recorded slow, meaning it sped up at normal speed, on top of it.

The piano solo, played by George Martin, was the last thing recorded for the track on 21 March, at 41-and-a-quarter cps, meaning it sped up quite a lot on playback.

The song was mixed for both mono and stereo with the tape machine running at 48-and-three-quarters cps.

Hope there is some sense in this confusion of things being sped up, slowed down, sometimes both!

Thanks @Ron Nasty ! I was listening to the solo and something about it reminded me of the solo on In My Life , which is sped up… so I just thought I’d ask. a-hard-days-night-george-10

George Martin liked his trap-door endings in both solos.

I love his solos– at least, the two that I know he plays a-hard-days-night-paul-4

What other piano solos does George Martin play?

Good Day Sunshine ” is the first one in mind. Possibly “Any Time At All ” and “Not A Second Time “, although that may be Paul.

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

This is going to be a hard one to answer but how did the people of Greenland hear The Beatles, did they get their imports from Canada, Europe, or somewhere else.

If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.

I was wondering about who else apart from Clapton, Billy Preston and Klaus Voorman has played live in concert with all four Beatles?

Keyboard player Roy Young often sat in with them during the Star Club period in Hamburg, and they’d back Tony Sheridan on stage as well (and Ringo definitely played with Sheridan, so if he didn’t as a Beatle… which he may well have…). Gerry Marsden shared a stage with three of them when Beatles and Pacemakers combined as the Beatmakers at Litherland Town Hall on 19 October 1961. I’d be amazed if Gerry hasn’t shared a stage with Ringo at some time. Cilla Black would another one who’s known to have been backed by them on occasion.

There are probably quite a few from that early Hamburg and Liverpool period, @Wigwam.
