Were the Beatles truly the first to intentionally use feedback on a record?

The reason that I ask is because many things that have been claimed as Beatle firsts over the years were not actually done for the first time by the Beatles. It wouldn’t surprise me if this one weren’t true, but I can’t think of anything earlier.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some Blues player did it first, but I’ve never heard an earlier use of it.

There are earlier claims, but they prove to be more distortion than controlled feedback.

A good example would be Ike Turner and Rocket 88 (credited to Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats). When Ike plugged into his amp, it turned out his amp was damaged, but Sam Phillips liked the sound and told him not to change amps.

Several of the London guitarists (Clapton, Beck, Townshend, among others) were certainly starting to experiment with feedback live by around that time, and I’ve never been entirely convinced by the “it was a happy accident” explanation.

Feedback would have been intentionally recorded pretty soon, they just got there first.

@HeyJules, I found this 2014 post from @parlance https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..5/#p105046

A quick internet search doesn’t turn up any mention that Gilmour has sold it or given it away.

I wonder if @Beatlebug would like to visit him and find out where he keeps it. I hope it is in a secure bank vault.

Why do most sources claim that both John and George play guitar on Little Child , I don’t hear any guitar on that song, even on the stereo version.

How is Here Comes The Sun such a popular song, it was never released as a single in the US or UK yet it’s so popular that it’s overplayed, one of 2 overplayed rock songs that were never released as a single, the other one being Stairway To Heaven. I don’t know how, which is why I’m asking you guys.

Richie Havens covered it in 1971 and had a top 20 hit with his version, so that undoubtedly helped

I wonder if it’s gotten more popular, recently with the rise of digital downloads/the release of Love. I say the latter because I know that the Anthology version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps became popular because of Love.

IIRC ‘Here Comes The Sun ‘ was one of the most streamed tracks when the Beatles arrived on that platform.

It was also selected for a very rare Beatles appearance on a Various Artists compilation back in the 80’s

Are you going by the commercial versions only or including ‘Anthology’, ‘BBC’ etc versions?

Why is every Beatles song (as well as Give Peace A Chance ) that was written by Lennon and or McCartney credited to both of them, even songs like Yesterday and Julia where the other Beatle didn’t contribute at all to the song.

If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.
