Rob Taylor is the guy who did “Beatles-to-a-tee” instructional guitar videos. The guy is obviously a very knowledgeable Beatles fan who has done A TON of research, and  who’s only goal is to get the most authentic and accurate guitar sound as possible down to the same guitar, amplifiers, and sometimes the matching suits.

The only problem is I cannot find ANYTHING on the internet about this Rob Taylor guy. There’s no trace of him anywhere not even on his website. No wikipedia page, NOTHING. The only information I could potentially find is from a interview from Beatlology magazine but I don’t think I will be ordering that issue. I am so curious about this guy but I cannot find any information about him anywhere. Could anyone help me figure this guy out?

uhm? No intention of spamming, it was my first post. I don’t have too much familiarity with this forum so if I did spam it was an accident. I thought I posted in the right place, but anyways this thread is now in the right place so can we please get back to my OP.

Sorry about that, we generally jump to conclusions because a lot of people start a thread and then vanish off the face of the forum- all you have to do is look at the rest of the “Pimp Your Stuff” forum

Anyhoo back on topic: I don’t know who he is, sorry :/ Have you tried messaging him on his website? It might come off a bit stalkerish though a-hard-days-night-george-10

I did send him an email through the email address listed on the website, but the website and videos seem to be a bit outdated so I am not expecting any reply.

EDIT: Checked email. No reply.

Wonder if it could be one of these people you are looking for?

tatvidprod is a seller of the DVD on Amazon. Perhaps they can get you in touch with Rob Taylor? There is a contact this seller link on that page.

Otherwise, I’m not sure this guy wants to be found/contacted.

I sent an email to the address listed on the website but I am not expecting any reply. Based on the HTML website and the quality of the videos, this project appears to be slightly outdated so I am going to assume these DVDs are not his priorities anymore. It’s very strange. I wonder if he used an alias for these videos which would be a shame because his body of work is phenomenal and attention to detail is outstanding.

Rob Taylor is a great guitarist who really knows his Beatles music and unlike most instructional guitar videos on the subject, Rob uses the right guitar models The Beatles used on that song, such as using a Strat for Nowhere Man and a Gretsch for Help , as well as the right positions to play the notes/chords. However, there are some flaws with his series:

1. In the first volume, he states that “ever time you see the J-160E in this video, it was a part that John played”, but then proceeds to play Please Please Me with both guitar parts on the Gibson J-160E, which although it’s possible they used these guitars on this recording, it’s clear that John plays rhythm and George plays lead, which makes the previous statement false.

2. For Dear Prudence , he shows all electric guitar parts being played on the Epiphone Casino, which means one of 3 things:

A. He believes that John played all guitar parts on the song, which he would be incorrect if that’s the case

B. He believes George played his Casino on the song, despite their being no evidence of him using it in the studio after 1967

C. He believes George played a Gibson Les Paul on the song but forgot to mention that he didn’t own one at the time

3. The slow segments, they weren’t that bad with the first 2 volumes, but with volume 3 and volume 4, he really got carried away with these.

4. He plays Revolution wrong and considered using a Les Paul to play the part (despite George not owning a Les Paul at the time), until he realized that there was a whammy bar part near the end, so he went for the Casino (in reality, George most likely used either a Strat or an SG on the recording) and on top of that, he plays George’s lead guitar part wrong, here’s a comparison:

How George plays it:

D|14-14h16-14|
A|12-12——12|

A|12-12h14-12|
E|10-10——10|

D|9-9h11-9|
A|7-7——7|

How he plays it for most of the song (for the final verse, he finally gets it right):

G|9-9h11-9|
D|7-7——7|

A|12-12h14-12|
E|10-10——10|

A|14-14h16-14|
E|12-12——12|

5. He did the Anthology version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps , but not The Beatles version.

6. If a song was sped up, he will play the song at it’s original key, but he won’t speed the recording up, making She Said She Said and Revolution sound wrong.

Does anybody know where I could find the issue of Beatleology magazine with him in it because I would like to read it.

Maybe you should try posting more.

Ah! The olden days of snappy replies as I didn’t think I had to be polite as I had no responsibilities to the forum.
