Hi! Here’s a new thing I made: http://www.bowiebible.com
I’ve been working on this pretty much all year, since finishing work on Riding So High. The main bulk of content right now is the Bowie albums section, and I’ve added some early entries to the history section. I know the homepage needs some work.
Because I’m a bit of a one-trick pony, I’ve modelled it pretty closely on this here Beatles Bible. It was originally going to be the David Bowie Database (DBDB), but that seemed a bit dry and dull. People I asked seemed to think another ~Bible site would be a good idea, so here it is. No, there are no plans for others.
The roadmap for 2019 is to do all the songs articles (400+, so at least one a day), fill in many of the history gaps, plus some features (sex, religion, drugs – the usual). I’m planning to stop with Bowie’s death in 2016, rather than adding endless news items. No plans for a forum just now…
I’ve written about 300,000 words so far, so a couple of books’ worth. Hence why I haven’t been here all that often. I’m sure there are mistakes on the site, so if you happen to spot any please leave a message on the relevant pages. Thanks to @Beatlebug for proofing some of the early features!

Great stuff, @Joe! Have bookmarked the page and will try to check in every now and again. I would only consider myself a casual Bowie fan atm, but hopefully this site will ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-change that!
I’m sorry for the above pun.

You know when I checked my iPod library……….Out of the nearly 5000 songs in there I was surprised to see I don’t have anything attributed solely to Bowie. Guess I’m not a fan. I’ll have to listen to his stuff. I grew up as a contemporary and very proud of any British act that made it in America but the only thing I recall liking was the Red Shoes one. He’s not held in such high esteem without good reason……I’m missing something…..But I can be a bit slow
Similarly I liked Queen but wasn’t any type of a fan until 5 mins into their ‘Live Aid’ performance….Then ‘Pow’ I got it.
Perhaps there’s a Bowie performance or less well known song that will blow my opened mind?…….Turn me from a liker to a lover.

Life on Mars and Starman got me into him. If I were you I’d go and listen to Hunky Dory. Just absorb the whole album, ya know? It’s gear.

I fell into a big Bowiebible hole yesterday. I plan to do the same today. Great addition to my circle internet musings which included Beatlesbible, facebook and baseballreference.com. Bowie Bible will work perfectly into the mix.

I’ve been a huge fan for almost as long as I’ve loved the Beatles (so nearly 30 years). I got into Bowie via the 1990 compilation ChangesBowie, and I’d probably recommend a best-of as a good place to start. Try the Nothing Has Changed one, but go for the 2xCD (which goes chronologically forwards) rather than the 3xCD version (backwards). Then pick a song or two that you like and investigate the album it’s from. Bowie never stood still, so you might love his Berlin period, or glam, or 80s pop, or industrial 90s, or Blackstar.
Actually, listen to Blackstar, then listen to it again and again, because it’s a masterpiece.
Hey, thanks everyone for the kind words. Lots still to do, but it’s a start 🙂
Edit: Just a thought, but the new Glastonbury 2000 DVD is a wonderful performance which has songs from each period. He was on top form and clearly enjoying every moment. If you got into Queen via Live Aid this might help you get Bowie too.

Great job, @Joe ! Will a forum feature be introduced over there?
I've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

What a great idea, so much stuff is coming out about Bowie’s career, a lot of historiography to do! Tony Visconti is a huge resource of Bowie stuff, he has a lot of great recording stories, because Bowie did for the 1970’s what the Beatles did for the 1960’s, he found the best people and did the craziest experiments in the studio.

Now I'm a confused bassist ukulele guitar synthesizer kazoo penguin everyone who is definitely not @Joe. This has been true for 2016 & 2017 but I may have to get more specific in the future.

Very pretty song. Nice blend of the acoustic guitar and what sounds like Mellotron-esque strings towards the end.

@Joe, I tried to post a comment under an article on the Bowie Bible, and the ‘I am not a robot’ captcha wouldn’t let me submit the post even after I checked it. It just lingered there, blocking my access to the post button.

Could any Bowie fans let me know if Tin Machine is worth checking out as a project?
