I love your style, particularly the middle Bowie pic. That looks like it could be a movie poster.

Amazing how those Bowies look nothing like your Beatles work.
Also amazing: Revolver tribute, with all those genius cameos and lyrical illustration. (And hm, is John’s ear a second bird?) I love what you did with George’s eyes….keep em coming!

Thanks! Film noir poster is a thing I like to do fairly often, and Bowie suits that sort of visual drama well.

That trio was a bit of a style departure for me/something I’ve done before but usually with non-rockers. I have a lot of styles depending on the mood I’m in, what I’m drawing on/with (those three were back-of-business-card drawings, which is always fun, and I used a ballpoint pen, which isn’t erasable so I had to get it right on the first go, which is nerve-wracking) and whatnot. It so happens that, typically, in my mind, the Beatles lend themselves to more cartoony drawings and the Bowie, as noted above, demands a bit more visual drama; but now that you mention it, I might have a whack at some Beatles in a similar style. StAy (slightly) tUnEd

Ahhh thanks

I have no idea.

What did I do with George’s eyes?
…besides manage to fairly accurately represent their actual g(e)orgeousness, I suppose
Anyway, will do!

Yeah, I get what you were going for, and yes Bowie is less cartoony. (But now I’m fantasizing, wishing that David had collaborated not with Nick Roeg but with Ralph Bakshi – an x-rated animated sci-fi musical, like Yellow Sub-meets-Barbarella!)
The thing about George’s eyes is that they were photo cutouts, Klaus didn’t draw them. That combo of drawn and photographed makes his George look a little more…inscrutable? than yours. Or something…

Oh, and John’s ear resembles a parrot. And I thought that was your “bird” until I saw the proper one. It’s a cool double image, intended or not…and the idea of Paul and John having two separate birds singing different songs in their ears, you don’t hear meeee…so many meanings.
Also, the info about your techniques and tools is informative and always welcome!

Ah, good to know. I love to share that sort of thing, but I’m always mildly worried about over-sharing (not that it stops me ).
Anyway, as promised, Noir Beatles Dramatique:
(art word of the day: quadriptych [or tetraptych, but I find that a bit more confusing with triptych])
The first (top left) was a bit of a trial run and I don’t like it as much as/it’s kind of awkward compared to the others, which I think are better. George and Ringo have a bit of a ’66 Rain theme, whilst Len and Mac are, of course, directly derived that famous and much-loved photo from ’65 by David Bailey. (I think I did a version of it before, albeit with my original characters in place of John and Paul.*)
Once again done in ballpoint pen on business cards (I used the same pen for all four, it’s the different card materials/surface treatments that make them appear different colours). I have a fancy artist pen set that’s really nice and which I love to use, but for some reason I decided not to use them here…? I think it was because the ballpoint ‘stuck’ better to the slightly shiny surface of the cards. Okay, I’ll stop now.

Don’t often switch between accounts midpost without A PURPOSE – in this case, I liked the idea of adding the bird-detail using the mostly green avatar. To match the bird in the lyric. I’m gonna make a visual contribution to this thread anyway I can! (And green is my favourite colour anyways)
New ones are niiice….love the turtlenecks and MacStrang ‘s jumper. (Shades of both MMT Paul and JP at Albert Hall ’70 I presume?)

Amazing!! I love the idea of drawing on business cards.
You can thank my wizard-friend for that.
He’s a much cooler artist than I am and no, this is not paid promotion
Business-card-backs are a wonderful medium — such a cute size and they come in a remarkable array of annoying degrees of printedness and laminatedness. (Also, the aspect ratio is very close to a smartphone-screen, so they make good wallpapers.)

To be fair, I don’t know that his art is cooler than yours, Beatlebug, although it is certainly extremely cool; your art is about as cool as it gets

Probably the consummation of my Dramatic Gothic Ink-on-Business-Card Polyptychs series, and that’s saying something because I’ve done a couple other quadriptychs between the Beatles ones and now. (I used my nice pens and sketched the faces out beforehand this time, plus I think Led Zeppelin, with their particular Norse-Celtic Bard-Rocker-Hippy aesthetic and Light-and-Shade-ness, are perfectly suited to the style. ) The very observant among ye may note astrological Easter-eggs (most befitting, considering the date) in the backgrounds of the cards — the band members’ zodiac Sun signs (top-bottom, left-right: Capricorn, Leo, Capricorn, and Gemini) and their respective ruling planets (ditto: Saturn, Sun, Saturn, Mercury), plus the Moon and Ascendant signs for Jimmy Page because he had them on his trousers).
And, to keep this post from being entirely off-topic, I drew this:
This was a blue business-card which I sanded lightly to make it less shiny and more draw-able, to interesting effect.

I used to have a quote that I liked by A. R. Ammons that went, ‘Anything looked at closely becomes beautiful.’ (I liked to apply this to plants and things because I liked to take arty close-up photos of them, still do actually.)
Meanies, though, do look extremely nice flooded in a Technicolour sea of flowers, peace, and love, as seen in the ending/It’s All Too Much sequence of Yellow Submarine . Rosy noses are good too.
