I mentioned on another thread that I’ve been getting heavily into The Four Seasons recently. I think they’re a great vocal group and I’m amazed at the hit-making roll they were on throughout most of the 60s, despite our lads and rest of the British Invasion knocking many of the American acts around before way down their home charts. Anyways, here’s a doodle tribute to Frankie Valli’s big ’67 solo hit, plus some more experimentation with my psychedelic lettering to go along with it!
I’m thinking of getting back on topic with something Paul/Wings related next, so look out for that!

Okay, that can wait. I recently revisited my fictional band idea and now they have two portraits! The first is a promotional picture from 1964…
And then backstage in 1968!
The group and the members don’t have names yet, but I’m happy to let you guys make suggestions for these if you want to. Originally they were meant to be a Californian sunshine pop group, but I thought since I’m posting this on a Beatles forum, why not make them a Merseybeat/British Invasion band instead! I would write a summary of their history I’ve come up with so far, but it’s too much for one post so I’m going to write up a Wikipedia style bio and discography at a later point. I want to practice doodling more 60s and possibly 70s fashion so you might get more pics of these guys from different years yet!

the bandname is Supersonic. They were a blues/soul band in the early sixties but like the Beatles began experimenting with drugs in the late sixtes, redefining their sound and revolutionizing music as we know it.
Love the art. scratched that itch if you know what i mean.

Got some good ideas going there, swr! I’m not sure about that name (might use it as a title of one of their albums though), but I figure their early sound from about 1962 to mid 66 is standard Merseybeat pop rock (think early Beatles, Hollies, Gerry and The Pacemakers etc.) with a little R&B and blue eyed soul influence thrown in later too. Their material at this point is a mixture of covers and originals. Then late 66 to 68 is considered their experimental and best period where they have a few styles going on simultaneously (psychedelic rock, folk rock, baroque pop and soul). All four members are now writing songs and their themes become more suggestive and include Ray Davies style social commentary, a move at the time which actually damages their popularity and alienates a lot of their teenybopper following from their earlier British Invasion success, but produces their some of their best albums which get cult followings and critically acclaimed years later. From there, I haven’t really decided where they go next, but I’m thinking maybe they turn to a more stripped down roots rock sound from 69 until their split in the mid 70s. Of course, I’ll put this all in better detail when I write the bio.

Could be lol the female lead vocalist in the group is based a little on Judith as well as a few others from around the same time like Cilla Black, Helen Shapiro and Sandie Shaw.

Okay, getting back on track again with Sir George
Also a mini “caption it” opportunity I found while looking through pics:
Yeah, I know I said I’d do something Paul related but I’ll make sure that’ll come next. Maybe something to do with McCartney III …

For once, I made a (rework) doodle in time for an anniversary. Unfortunately, it’s this one but hopefully this is an upbeat post…
I know I’ve only just uploaded it but I can already proudly say this is my best George in the four years of the entire thread. Something I’d like to work on is toning down the over exaggerated features of a lot of my past doodles, so this is kind of a first attempt towards that.
While I’m here, I hope George is somewhere peaceful doing the gardening and having a ball. I’ve missed him very much today.

I have returned to my fictional band project and finally have a name for the group and members, as well as one of their albums! Keeping with the whole Merseybeat theme, I’ve called them The Brightbeats. Although I probably should have started with making their history and early discography from the beginning in 1962, I’ve jumped ahead to making the cover for one of their retrospectively “famous/cult following albums” released sometime in 1967 or 68. Hopefully I can connect the pieces as I go along and present their history chronologically and completed at a later point.
The album in question is called Recalled To Memory. It’s probably their sixth or seventh by this point (not including a greatest hits compilation and a live album) and stylistically was the big (but unpopular at the time) change for them I described in one of the above posts – a mixture of psychedelic rock, folk rock, baroque pop and some R&B also in there. Here’s the cover:
Two fun easter eggs here – since @sigh butterfly mentioned The Seekers, I thought I would pay a little homage to the Seen In Green album cover with this one just for you! The second one I think only Holey will know, but the bubbly overlay is my Meridianesque artwork. For everyone else, this was a shelved music project we planned with Martha over PMs a few years back, but we haven’t returned to it since she disappeared. However I thought I’d still make use of the artwork I made for it somehow so there you go.
And here are the members:
Personnel:
Jennie Fairing – lead vocals, bass guitar
Brian Eddon – rhythm guitar, lead and backing vocals, keyboards
Alexander Chaplain – lead guitar, lead and backing vocals
Les Russell – drums and percussion
So to identify the members from the cover, Alexander is the Lincoln beard guy, Brian is the Pepper moustache guy, Les is the lighter redhead and Jennie is in the center!
Going with what I said above, I might work on the rest of their albums chronologically and when it comes to the time of this one, I’ll give the track listing, back story and more information then. I also want to work on making a George Martin-esque producer and arranger character for them who would probably play a huge role on this album as well. Again, feel free to give suggestions for the members and even song and other album titles if you want!

That’s great Sarge, I even had that LP long ago (Seen In Green not Recall To Memory) and I still love their take on Cloudy. I think you’ve really hit on a unique method of caricature. Let’s breathe some life into the mighty Bright Beats!!

Oh my, that’s a throwback… iirc, I don’t think we even started anything, we only got up to the planning stage? I’m glad you were able to use the artwork for something
