‘Compline’ by Gladys Pagendam is getting four and five star reviews on Amazon and is very quirky. They are saying it is different from the usual Beatles books and it is because it is much more than that, and only features George Harrison , which in itself is unusual. The author lived in Liverpool, just around the corner from George and danced in the Cavern at the height of Beatlemania so it has an authentic appeal. I won’t spoil it for anyone that wants to read it but it is worth a visit to Amazon.com to check it out. I actually love books about the Beatles (and there are lots of them) so long as they are well researched and not about unknown and imagined love affairs. This isn’t one of those but it is a very benign look at the character of George Harrison and has a touch of magic realism which is popular these days (Life of Pi comes to mind). Magic realism is where the storyline slips out of the real into the surreal or the imagined world of the protagonist. Very Beatles in my opinion because they were well ahead of their time in this!
