Offline This post is all about the songs…
Although the songs where credited Lennon-McCartney / McCartney-Lennon, one of them usually contributed more than the other.
Many books, interviews, articles & not at least the artwork itself have helped us get a sense of who was the “mastermind” behind each song. Most of them where collaborations.. but usually one of them was more to “blame”.
Some important books on this subject:
- Ian Macdonald – Revolution in the head
- William J. Dowlding – Beatlesongs
- Mark Lewisohn – The Complete Beatles Chronicle
- The Beatles – The Beatles Anthology
- Bård Ose – Beatles hele livet (Norwegian)
My systematic approach to decide this issue… is to put up a top 10 list of my favorite Beatles songs.
The greatest Beatles songs:

- A Day In The Life (1967)
- Hey Jude (1968)
- Something (1969)
- Eleanor Rigby (1966)
- While My Guitar Gently Weeps (1968)

@herseydenvar has been posting a lot of links to sites including beatlesdaily.com and needsomefun.com. This contravenes the anti-spam rules on the forum, so I’m going to move them all into this thread.
To be clear to everyone, this website isn’t a place for people to drive traffic to another site. I don’t mind people passing on links to their own interesting content, but this must be part of a wider discussion. Simply dropping a link – “Here’s a link to a gallery/poll/quiz I made” – without contributing in any other way to the forum is not acceptable. Therefore, any subsequent drive-by link drops are liable for deletion.
From now on, all links to beatlesdaily.com from a suspected site owner will be moved to this thread. One off threads may be merged here or deleted. Sustained spamming without paying attention to the rules may result in a ban.
