Hello everyone!
I’m currently working on my EPQ which is like this project you can choose to do in the UK to do alongside your A-levels. My project title is “What impact did The Beatles have on changing attitudes in 1960s America?”
I was just wondering if anyone would like to participate in my questionnaire. It will be such a big help, and you don’t even have to answer all the questions if you’re not sure, I’m just so grateful for all the help I can get.
Thank you all very much!

May I inquire as to why you have Imagine listed as a Beatles song?

Because it’s still a great demonstration of how they had a large influence over changing attitudes, even though it’s part of John’s solo album. My EPQ later looks at the legacy of all of their work and that includes after the Beatles.

When was ‘AYNIL’ ever a gay anthem? And, yeah ‘Imagine ‘ is not the Beatles, never was, never will be. You may as well call ‘Spies Like Us’ or ‘Brainwashed‘ Beatles tracks along with every other solo work ever released – something which would irritate all four Beatles at one time or another (try and say that to George about his solo catalogue). Beatles and solo are very different.
Aside from that, all the best for your A-Levels.

I participated, Ringo’slittlehelper, though I can’t speak from personal experience of the 60s, which were 89% over at the time I was born.
All the best, etc.

I think the reason they choose AYNIL is because it about love, Like that is the main message of the song. But I will agree that AYNIL isn’t really a gay anthem, most of the people I know (myself included) wouldn’t call it a gay anthem, let alone one of the first. Their were other songs in the 60s and 70s that were better Gay anthems (Lola by the Kinks, Make Up by Lou Reed, John Im only dancing by David Bowie, ect.) I think it might have been a misunderstanding.
Who knows though, maybe it was in the past.
