OK, let me start by saying I’ve got no idea if this is even allowed. If it isn’t, feel free to delete!
For the past 3 years, I’ve been involved in the organisation of the Redhead Days, which is an annual festival to celebrate natural red hair. Being ginger myself, and having been bullied to hell and back because of it, the festival has really meant a lot to me. When I joined the organisation, I had nearly zero confidence. Now, I’m coordinating the social media team, I’ve set up and am leading the affiliate program, I’m coordinating the annual crowdfunding campaign (and doing most of the work), the festival director tends to use me as a sounding board and there are several other random things I’ve ended up doing. All of this I could not have imagined 3 years ago, when I joined the team as the Facebook administrator! I’ve not only gained confidence in my organising abilities; I’ve made quite a few friends too. I’m a very shy and introverted person but each time I attend the festival, I make contact more easily and I enjoy myself more. So it’s safe to say the Redhead Days mean the world to me.
At this moment, we’re hosting our third annual crowdfunding campaign. The festival is a non-profit organisation, all organisers are unpaid volunteers, and we rely on grants, sponsors and donations to close our budget. It’s the 10th anniversary of the festival this year, and it’s dedicated to Vincent van Gogh. If we’re going to make it a decent celebration, we need extra funding, hence the crowdfunding campaign. So far, we raised €5.300 of our €20.000 goal. Trust me when I say that’s just a fairly small portion of the amount of money involved in organising a 3-day event which draws thousands of people from all over the globe to Breda, the Netherlands.
Being the coordinator of this crowdfunding thing, the stakes are high for me personally. Reaching the goal is very important to me, and that’s why I’m doing all I can to get as many people involved as possible. So, this is me reaching out to my fellow Beatlemaniacs, hoping to find a few gingers and/or fans of gingers (where is the Jane Asher emoticon when you need it?) Anyone is welcome to attend the festivities, and all donations to the campaign are welcome. Also, if you know any redheads, please tell them about the Redhead Days. Thank you!
p.s. Did you know at least two Beatles carried the red hair gene? John obviously, but Paul carries it too.

I’m not sure about the Beatles, but I know Elvis was a big fan of redheads, especially this one:
This always reminds me of a comment by David Letterman at the time when the USPS was deciding whether to use an image of the young vital Elvis on a stamp or the old, glittery Vegas Elvis. Dave said that whenever he licked one of the young Elvis stamps, it “put him in mind of Ann Margret.”
I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

Well, I think it’s obvious Paul fancies redheads. Though not as obvious as Jane, Linda was was a strawberry blonde (a hair colour often referred to as ginger-in-denial) and her hair would be quite red during the cold months. But like I said, Paul himself is a carrier of the gene, otherwise Stella could never have been a redhead 🙂

I honestly had not heard of (nor encountered) this “traditional” bullying of redheads until a couple of years ago – I get the impression it’s more of a UK/European thing. Needless to say, it pisses me off that it exists – isn’t there enough needless persecution (for the stupidest of nonexistent reasons) in the world already?

Hey @Mademoiselle Kitty >^..^<, there may be a rethink towards the thread but the current viewpoint is that the thread should be in the ‘Pimp Your Stuff’ sub-forum due to the nature of the post and requests contained within. I hope this is ok with yourself.
Good luck with the festival and the fundraising, i hope you get the donations required to make it a vast success.
