I’m not sure @Joe would be able to keep his sanity if paulsbass and/or Mr. Big were to come back with me as a moderator. I’d be cracking a whip on them relentlessly. Poor Joe would be getting more emails from me than he ever want to get in his lifetime. I would drain all the minutes on @Zig’s phone plan. @meanmistermustard would have to tell me lots of jokes with lots of smileys to bring my blood pressure down. Joe would have to put his foot down and tell me to stop.
Paul singing John’s songs…sure. Lots of people cover John’s songs. Why not Paul?

I have no problem with anyone returning if they are courteous to other users and conduct themselves in a manner worthy of the forum.

Very well put, as usual, mmm. If those two came back as they were before, that’s when I would have a hard time. If they found their manners and returned, then that would be fine.

I love that concept of “unpersoning” yourself. I can’t decide if it’s like a lobotomy or more like consigning your soul to Satan (not Satan Himself).
Why wouldn’t Paul want to pay tribute to his friend John by doing what he knows best: singing.

OudisI say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did'.

In response to the main question of this topic: I don’t have any reaction to Paul singing John’s songs. Honestly, I think it’s completely ridiculous to get offended over someone deciding to cover someone else’s song in general, because cover songs are a sign of respect to the original artist.

I have no more of a problem with this than I did with Wings covering Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Richard Cory’, Paul jamming out to Jimi Hendrix’s ‘Foxy Lady’, or John covering ‘Hound Dog’. In fact, I hope for as long as he tours, Paul continues to add more Lennon songs to his set list. He will, at the very least, sing them with the emotion they command.

I’d rather have Paul singing them than anyone else tbh.
I have no preference, as long as it’s well done. If someone covers a John song (or any other musician), that means they were touched by their music, and the more people touched by The Beatles’ music, the better.

Strangely enough, I remain somewhat bothered by the idea of Paul singing one of the Lennon-identified/John-sung Beatles songs, yet NOT by the idea of Paul covering one of John’s solo songs. Illogical, I know. *shrug*
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.
