Happy birthday, wherever you are, good Sir.
It’s weird to me that there’s a Beatle person that would be a hundred years old in a few years if still alive.

George Martin telling his granddaughter about meeting the Beatles…

I don’t normally share anything personal but this my dad from a while back explaining to my daughter he signed the Beatles. Ordinary people do extraordinary things. Great decisions are made for the simplest reasons. “I figured if I like them this much other people might too” ❤️ pic.twitter.com/j4bf96b4zS

I love that and I love George Martin. How poignant that he grew older and had all these strong memories of the youngsters he knew, particularly John and George who departed this Earth years ago. We’re all stories in the end. George Martin was a special man and a true English gentleman. Calm, classy and knew his stuff. Whenever he appeared in the Get Back film I sat up and paid attention. You could tell his obvious affection for the four members.

Sean Connery has nothing on our dear Mr. Martin.
As George Martin once said: “My dear girl, there are some things that just aren’t done, such as drinking Dom Perignon ’53 above the temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s as bad as listening to the Beatles without earmuffs.”

I’ve heard and liked a handful of songs by the band America, and today I discovered that a lot of their albums were produced by George Martin. I wonder if that’s partly why they have such a nostalgic sound to me, because of that production familiarity. (We know that Mr. Martin had plenty of experience with producing groups who did close vocal harmonies, that’s for sure. ) Heck, I’ve always thought “Sister Golden Hair” sounded like a lost George Harrison song, for the first 15 seconds at least…
And this may also mean I have to go do a deep-dive on their discography at some point.

I might have mentioned this at the time, but last year I went to the Paul McCartney Eye of the Storm photography exibition in London. There are lots of amazing photos, but my favourite was this of George Martin about to throw his wife into the pool in Miami. It’s well known that he had a great sense of humour and that’s how he initially bonded with the Beatles, but I feel like photos of him rarely portray his cheeky, playful side!
