I just read an interesting article from a New York Times reporter (the article wasn’t from the Times) talking about a lawsuit he was in with Magic Alex, where while discussing the Beatles burst of creativity during their time with the Maharishi in India, he sued the reporter for libel when he gave a breif background on Mardas referring to him as charlatan.
as it turns out Mardas had been suing and settling out of court for years pretty much whenever he is mentioned in a Beatles related story or book. (Because people often times don’t have good things to say about him.)
I’m curious what people think: Was Alex trying to manipulate the band through his inventions and rumors about Maharishi, or was he simple mistaken, or even correct in his accusations?
Part of me wants to believe John and Alex and condemn MMY, while the other part of me does not trust the source of these rumors. Paul and George were both extremely skeptical, yet it is completely believable that a man of such influence would use his power to get away with questionable behavior.
