I was trying to figure out from the day-to-day history which would be the last day the four Beatles played together. My best guess is 25th July ’69:

They taped the backing track for Polythene Pam -Bathroom Window on that day. The only other two songs begun after this day – Because and I Me Mine – had only 3 Beatles on the basic track.
Moreover, is their final performance together preserved on the album? Or was the final take that day not the one that was used?

Interesting topic.
We have had whole books written about the day John and Paul met at St Peters Church Village Fete but I have never heard an account of the last day as it were.
I wonder what they said to eachother as they were leaving? Did they know at the time that the session they had just had would be their last together as a foursome or did they expect to have another overdub or mixing session together which never materialised? I wonder whether they thought or were hoping that John would show up for the later session at which they recorded I Me Mine ?

Yeah, people take lots of pictures and videos at their wedding, but not so many of their divorce. Maybe someone here can shed some more light on this topic for us. It is interesting.

I believe I read somewhere that the last time all four Beatles were playing together was on the song “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).” And if I’m not mistaken, whoever wrote the article was impressed at how well they were functioning as a musical group at that session. That’s nice to think that they were cookin’ right at the very end.

Well according to the timeline, the backing track of I Want You was recorded on February 22nd.
The article on the two songs on this site states that 39 takes of the backing track were recorded, but not which take was used. It does say drums and bass were then rerecorded, so even if the final take 39 is the one on the LP, we’d only be hearing, at most, George and John’s performances.

They were all together at subsequent sessions – e.g. Ringo sat with the other 3 while they all tracked their vocals on Because . But I think the final band performance was on the 25th
