Is your colony going to be on the moon, Venus, or Mars? According to your musings, if you are still on this planet, you will be discoverable.

From The Examiner:

On this day in 1964 The Beatles’ The Beatles Second Album sets a record by reaching number one on the Billboard chart just one week after its release. For the first time in a year, The Beatles are bumped from the number one spot on the UK chart, by The Rolling Stones‘ debut album.

Business Lessons in Rock article:

It was 50 years ago this month that the the Beatles’ grip on the #1 spot was finally broken by Louis Armstrong’s “Hello, Dolly!”—a great reminder that most of the artists who had major chart success after the Beatles’ arrival had more talent and substance than the ones before (at least since the demise of early rock & roll in 1959). Somehow Satchmo, Mary Wells, the Supremes, and Roy Orbison managed to survive the Beatles’ onslaught. Yes, many decent soul and pop acts were crowded out of the Hit Parade by the British Invasion—and probably had their careers shortened. But one could argue (and I do) that the fittest survived. In the years that followed, the fittest included Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, and Smoky Robinson and the Miracles. Credit The Beatles and the survivors.

To mark the Beatles going to Australia 50 years ago a highlights video running nearly 5 minutes long has been compiled by EMI Music Australia and uploaded to their youtube page (credit to Examiner for the heads-up) .

Yesterday was the 50th anniversary of Jimmy Nicol‘s first concert as a temporary Beatle, in Copenhagen.

So funny to me that they felt the need to give him a Beatle haircut for the occasion.

Really loved the Ed Sullivan 50-year concert although I wish it had been a bit more Paul and Richard and less modern bands.

50 Years Ago this week, the Beatles hit New Zealand. Meet the Beatles for Real has several articles like this one following their tracks.

Link to a 9 1/2 minute documentary on Jimmie Nicol. Wasn’t sure where else to put this since we don’t have a thread on him, and I don’t know if there’s enough interest to start one.

I don’t think so. No offense to Jimmie, but there isn’t enough people interested in the drummer of the Beatles for a few weeks. As soon as he left, he fell apart. It’s just not reasonable.

I’d disagree. Jimmie Nicol’s story is an important part of the Beatles as he is one of the very few outsiders to have experienced Beatlemania at its height and played with John, Paul and George in concert. What happened to him afterwards is immaterial.

I was thinking maybe there could be a Temporary Beatles thread. I just don’t know if one on Jimmie alone would garner enough discussion, and I know we like to avoid one-or-two-post threads.

Yeah I think that could work. I like to avoid one-post threads too. That’s what happened to my first thread, it failed.

Things related to Jimmie do get posted they just get swallowed up as they are scattered all over the place. Temporary Beatles might be better tho but can his name be in the title to aid searches.

Maybe the Temporary Beatles idea but who else qualifies in that category?
