Then we would have a 70 years, 80 years, . . . 2 billion years ago today. Half the forum would be recounting Beatles years and most of the posts would be the exact same. On second thought this might not be a good idea at all.

That would be so neat! Can we do this today?

Hold your horses! We got to wait until two billion years after the Beatles formed. That will be in another 1,999,999,941 years.

Wow, I haven’t been on for a few days. At first I thought the site had been hacked 😀
I remember all the events of 50 years ago today very clearly. My uncle was an editor at the local newspaper. He was always getting lots of free stuff. 50 years and 2 days ago he called my mom and told her he had 4 comp tickets to the Beatle’s concert plus a parking pass. I cannot overstate what a life changing and grand opportunity this was to me. There really was nothing above it at the time – not even a million bucks. Not only was it free tickets, we only lived about 40 miles from Candlestick Park and had been there many times to see the Giants (baseball). Incredibly my mom said no thanks. I think to her the thought of going to a rock concert was akin to being tortured. She couldn’t even consider it on any level. She did say I could go if I could find another adult to drive and chaperone. I could not and short of running away (which I might have done if I had the tickets in hand) the Beatles went on for the last time without me. Sadly my relationship with my mom suffered after that and I never fully trusted her again. I distinctly remember thinking I would never be that out of touch with my kids. In fact I am now the go to concert chaperone for my entire family. I have taken kids to at least 20 different concerts big and small. Proudly I have only had to cover my ears once at a New Kids On The Block stadium concert. That’s the only time I ever experienced that jet airplane taking off sound that you hear on live Beatle recordings. I’m always kind of amazed that the parents don’t want to see their kids dreams coming true at these concerts. I accompanied 4 twelve year girls to see Taylor Swift and when she did that song about James Dean they were just shaking with excitement. I’ll never forget it…

I bet he thinks of his Lovely Linda a lot. I know he loves Nancy, but Linda will always be with him. I’m sure Nancy understands.

It was fifty years ago today
Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play
They’ve been going in and out of style
But they’re guaranteed to raise a smile
So may I introduce to you
The act you’ve known for all these years
Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band
Athough wouldn’t it be 70 years because it would be 50 added to the original 20?

I may piss a couple of you off by saying this, but there’s a possibility that Sgt. Pepper wasn’t released 50 years ago today. According to Wikipedia, it was released on the 26th of May 1967 and even has a source to back it up. Sadly, since most of the regular members were either not even born yet, very young, or an American, there are no eyewitnesses here to confirm it but that doesn’t stop me from asking you guys what you think.

According to the Beatles Bible, it was released 1 June. That’s good enough for me.
26 May must’ve been the iTunes or streaming pre-release, or something.

Ian MacDonald agrees that it is June 1. Facebook has it set to today as well. Wikipedia is the only source that has May 26 that i’ve seen. It is an error.

According to Wikipedia:
Released on 26 May 1967 in the United Kingdom[nb 1] and 2 June 1967 in the United States. And that annotation: According to author Allen J. Wiener, the album’s intended release date of 1 June has been “traditionally observed” over the ensuing decades, yet the true release date was 26 May.
I was holding off saying it was THE day until tomorrow as I live in the U.S.A. but everyone is celebrating today, even the official channels (Beatles Twitter, Abbey Road Twitter and fans) sooooooo…. okay let the celebrations ensue. I had always thought this one had a simultaneous worldwide release.
