What circumstances in your life would have been different if you would have never listened to the Beatles?
_ Here in school you have to choose every year a “best classmate”. Since the kids are voting usually it goes to whoever is more popular, not to whoever is actually the best classmate. Nobody in my family ever had that award. However, the year I started singing Beatles` songs in school (Help and Twist And Shout ) I was all of a sudden the most popular kid in class. I got the Best classmate award of 1998.
_ Up to this day I still say that I learnt English thanks to the Beatles. Attempts from my brothers to teach me English before, had been in vain, I just wasn`t interested. However, once I started listening to the Beatles I started to learn English on my own compulsively. Now English is really useful to me both in my personal and in my professional life.
_ Thanks to the Beatles I know a little bit of music, I learnt a few things on the guitar and on the piano trying to play their songs, however, there`s a lot to work on that area still. Before listening to the Beatles I don`t think I was even really interested.
_ Thanks to the Beatles I went to a radio station and participated in a show.
That`s all I can think for the moment, how about you guys?

The Beatles COMPLETELY changed my life.
When I was younger, I had some problems, such as separation of my parents, a cruel father, spreading myself too thin and getting stressed because of it, having A LOT of homework and not being able to finish it, losing sleep because of worries… and a lot of other stuff. I thought I was crazy or something. I thought I was a horrible person and that I deserved to die. I hurt myself. I starved myself. I was rarely happy, and happy moments didn’t last long. I didn’t want to live anymore, and I started making plans for ending it. I was nearly gone.
And then came the fateful day when my mother put The White Album in the CD player.
Suddenly, I had discovered a new passion: music, specifically The Beatles. Suddenly, death didn’t seem like the best option.
Suddenly, I wanted to live.
I’m still on this planet because of The Beatles. I’m forever indebted to them, silly as it may sound. Without them… I don’t even want to think about that.
So there’s my story. Thank you, Beatles.

That’s amazing! I am SO glad that you discovered The Beatles when you did!
"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been.. I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene.. Banjos! Banjos! All the time, I can't forget that tune.. and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Every single musical performer whose music has meant a lot to me is responsible for seeking out and obtaining many, many records – not just by the exact performer in question, but also by others who followed in their wake, with the ultimate goal being to try and recapture the magic. How many fewer records would I own if I’d never gotten into the Beatles?
Literally a THOUSAND?? Or possibly even thousandS???
Certainly several hundred, anyways!
Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

I listened to a LOT of The Beatles when I was off work with an injury for 5 months last year. That was very healing for me mentally. In general I am now a calmer, peaceful, and more patient person. It makes my job, driving in the city, and just life in general easier to deal with. I got “The End ” lyrics tattoed on my forearm to remind me to always treat others how I want to be treated.
They also made me more intetested in being a musician (learning guitar mostly). They are very inspiring in that way, especially since they are so non-conventional, which is right up my alley.

I’m not sure how I can answer this because I have literally been listening to them from birth…I cannot remember a single moment in my 33 1/2 years (so far) on this earth where I haven’t heard The Beatles. I know that I certainly wouldn’t be as much of an Anglophile or be a musician and songwriter if it wasn’t for the Beatles (and other bands, too, of course). And music in general and MANY Beatles songs in particular have soundtracked my life and also helped me get through some very rough patches for which I’ll be eternally grateful.

I don’t know which came first, me becoming an Anglophile or me becoming a Beatlemaniac. The Beatles taught me to appreciate “songs”, which are pieces with lyrics. I used to listen to instrumentals exclusively , usually restricted to Classical and a little bit of Blues and Jazz. The Beatles are probably the reason why I grow my hair longer now. The Beatles opened new doors of music to me, they became my stepping stone to new music and at the same time my retreat group. I have become more interested in recent history now more than ever.
EDIT: Forgot to add that the Beatles inspired me to learn how to play the guitar.

^same here, I’ve been playing guitar and bass and singing since I was 10 and that was because of the Beatles. Same when I started writing songs when I was 13, and I’ve never stopped!

You sound like me…. I’m happy that they had such an effect on you
The Beatles have changed my life, but I can’t quite put my finger on how, or why. It’s intangible, I can feel it inside of me but I can’t really explain it. I don’t think many people really can though. There was just something about them.
EDIT: I think there’s already another thread like this.

Same. I was in a huuuge depression and then I got into the Beatles and became a much calmer and happier person. But I don’t really want to get into that because it was a hard time. But they taught me to never give up and just live life to the fullest.
Hmm..furthermore, it has completely changed the way I listen to music.
It also has learnt me a lot more English words. My English was never really bad, but thanks to the Beatles my vocabulary has expanded tremendously.

Like DrBeatle said…for me there really isn’t a time in my memory that there wasn’t the Beatles! When I was born, my siblings were 16, 12 and 9. The older two definitely Beatles fans. We listened to Beatle records daily in my home…by the age of 4 I knew the words to many of their songs. I had a renewed interest in them when I was about 15…and it goes on to this day
Like others have stated here – the Beatles have gotten me thru some pretty rough patches in life. Some of their songs have a deep, personal meaning to me that connects with certain periods of my life.
I couldn’t image life without Beatles! “They” have always been there for me!

They help me through everything, good days and bad days. I know I am a fan girl at times, but The Beatles, along with Harry Potter, have helped me with critical thinking in life. They keep me focus and positive; furthermore before them, I just didn’t care about anything particularly school because I was poor student.

Glad that they have helped so many of us through difficult times. Like Linde said…”just one band can have THAT much of an impact?” It’s amazing what the Beatles can do.
I was thinking about a more recent impact the Beatles have had in my life. In November 2012, both my older sister and I wanted to get tickets to see Paul McCartney here in Edmonton. Unfortunately, she was scheduled for knee surgery on November 9th and would not be able to walk the steps at Rexall Place where he would be performing…so, she couldn’t attend. My friend was able to get us tickets and she & I were able to attend & of course it was the show of a lifetime! I felt so bad that my sister, Terry couldn’t make it as she had been a Beatles fan forever. One of her friends did go to the concert and bought her a Paul t-shirt and “On The Run” Program and gave it to her for Christmas. I wanted a t-shirt so badly, but the line-ups were so long…I didn’t get one, but I still got to see Paul! On Christmas Day, my Mom and Terry came to our house to celebrate with our family. I was SO jealous to see my sister wearing her gorgeous “On The Run” Paul shirt! She teased me about it in “sisterly fashion”!
5 days after Christmas, on December 30/12, my sister Terry passed away suddenly..without warning It was devastating. A few days later, as we began the task of going through her things…we found many Beatle treasures, like her Beatles wallet that I now proudly own – and of course, the t-shirt & program. My Mom & other sister said that Ter would want me to have them, so I do.
Most nights, I put my over-sized Paul “On The Run” t-shirt on when I get comfy and I sleep in it too. It feels like a hug from my sister Ter and it brings me comfort.
