Me and my mom have gone few her record collection a few times, and it has always been really interesting. Some things I haven’t liked at all, and others I’ve absolutely loved. This was how I listened to ‘Piper At The Gates Of Dawn’ for the first time (I’m now a big PF fan), and Dave Brubeck and similar artists to him (I’m now something of a Jazz fan, particularly Blues-orientated).
It’s a great experience to share with your children/parent, I think. And if you get them to like really good music, then that is even better!
Moving along in our God given ways, safety is sat by the fire/Sanctuary from these feverish smiles, left with a mark on the door.

This is a question about introducing your kids or anyone else to the Beatles or any other group/singer.Should you start someone off with the group’s #1 songs? Or, if possible, do you think it would be better to let them hear complete albums (and possibly singles), and let them decide what songs they like most before they hear what other people picked out as their favorites (ie #1s)? If they get used to hearing the #1s, their ears and minds may be drawn to those songs if/when they get to hear the regular albums.
My husband had only listened to the Beatles 1 album. When he heard “Got To Get You Into My Life “, he said, “You mean to tell me that wasn’t a #1 song?” He was miffed.
My mom’s favorite Beatles song is Ob La Di, Ob La Da. I might have lost her if she had only listened to the 1 album.
I believe it depends on the person. I started off with the #1 Album along with a few other songs. And for a while that was all I needed and didn’t really move on. Now, I don’t even listen to that album because I prefer to listen to the full albums/the majority of an album. Others may only want to listen to the hits because thats all they need especially in this day in age where you can go to itunes and just pick the songs you like; however, at the same time they are missing out on great material.

I’m still a kid, but when I was really young (5 and 6) my favorites were All You Need Is Love , Twist And Shout , Day Tripper , Ticket To Ride , and All Together Now . My 5 and 7 year old brothers favorites right now are Hello Goodbye , All Together Now , I Me Mine , Revolution 1 , and Hey Jude .

I think you are spot on there – I just play my stuff and every Now And Then I have heard my son humming bits of a number of Beatles songs.

“Fascination with Beatles continues to grow long after the Fab Four’s infamous breakup”
Some 210 million Americans weren’t alive when the Fab Four landed in New York City. More than 165 million Americans hadn’t been born when the Beatles took their final walk together across Abbey Road six world-shaking years later. But they have never stopped picking up new fans.
It’s a fascination that’s grown, not only in Violet’s home, but around the world as new legions of Beatle Babies are raised on the manna of a musical catalogue…

I was talking to one of Ted’s nursery carers this week. She said: “When we do singing circle we ask the children to choose a song to sing. One might pick Old McDonald; another might ask for Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Ted always wants Hey Jude .”

Hallelujah! Amen! It looks like apostolic succession is in place for the maintenance of the Beatles Bible ministry for decades to come. The flock may rest easy.

It’s funny that this sort of thing pops up for every new generation, but my kids told me they have to downplay their love of the Beatles among their school-age friends. The Beatles, a complete unknown to most kids, carry the stigma of being “old-people music”. My kids don’t even bother mentioning it at school anymore.

Perhaps your kids would feel at home amongst the young people posting to

At my school, I’m pretty famous for loving the Beatles. Why be embarrassed of it if I know it’s way better than what they’re listening to? I’ve dragged a few of my friends in to them, but they’re not as interested as I am.

My kids are 9 and 11, so it’s much harder at this point for them, socially speaking, to be able to say they love the Beatles. Kids that age are very black and white.
In a few years my kids will be musical trailblazers, but for now I’m okay with them just running with the herd, socially-speaking.

I just came across this book while ordering juvenile biographies for my library’s collection. parlance mentioned it over on the new-books thread, but I thought it worth a mention in this thread.
The Beatles Were Fab (and they were funny)(extensive review)
Q: How do you find all this business of having screaming girls following you all over the place?
George: Well, we feel flattered . . .
John: . . . and flattened. When the Beatles burst onto the music scene in the early 1960s, they were just four unknown lads from Liverpool. But soon their off-the-charts talent and offbeat humor made them the most famous band on both sides of the Atlantic. Lively, informative text and expressive, quirky paintings chronicle the phenomenal rise of Beatlemania, showing how the Fab Four’s sense of humor helped the lads weather everything that was thrown their way—including jelly beans.

Yes, introduction through humor is good. Both my children liked the Beatle movies (the main 3).
