Zoom In or Change The World

Listening to both “Zoom In, Zoom Out” and “Let’s Change The World” singles right now, for the first time. I loved how Ritchie Snare opens “Change” with an attention-getting drum bit almost identical to “Rain “, to match the lyric’s references to rain, but nothing else really stands out in the song. “…Zoom Out” I like much more, lyrically, and musically as well, so that’d be my choice…if the question was between the two songs, rather than the two EPs, so lemme experience them in full and I’ll be back to finish this post before you can slice an apple in two apple01

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

…ok, I definitely prefer the material on “Zoom In”, although that line in “Change The World” about “half-unfinished songs” is a classi clever Ringoism. ahdn_ringo_09“Zoom In” for me.

Ask Me Why ” or “Tell Me Why “?

Paul: Yeah well… first of all, we’re bringing out a ‘Stamp Out Detroit’ campaign.

Here Today by a mile. All Those Years Ago is just too upbeat for a tribute to a deceased friend – if I recall, it was a hastily retooled song that was originally written with a different tone, and it shows. Here Today is one of the most genuine, soul-baring, heart-wrenching pieces of songwriting Paul has ever created.

With The Beatles or Beatles For Sale ?

I think I’d have to say With The Beatles , I enjoy their older love songs… a-hard-days-night-paul-7

How about Beatle friendship…

Paul and John or George and Ringo?

Reporter: What do you and Ringo do while John and Paul write songs?

George: We play marbles.

Real Love ” I much prefer; “Free As A Bird ” is a lethargic mishmash of elements.

Video clips! “Penny Lane ” or “Strawberry Fields Forever “?

Both albums are amazing, but Revolver is my favourite Beatles studio album.

George’s version of Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond) or Ringo’s?

George Harrison does a better job with it.

Live And Let Die or Junior’s Farm was better?

Live And Let Die or original James Bond theme was better?

Sorry Lucyhack, that option is only 50% Beatle, a choice between Beatle and non-Beatlething; and therefore typically ineligible according to the thread rules. However, since this is your very first post in this thread (my thread!), I’ll allow it to stand this time, for whoever chooses to answer it. apple01

Well, I find “Live And Let Die ” very enjoyable movie-music (certainly tons better than “Spies Like Us”), and another good example of Paul’s technique of turning a pop song into a little medley; but not much more than that. Plus, I think George Martin’s score and orchestration are my favourite things about it. “Junior’s Farm”, however, is a sizzling hard-rocker in the Paul/Wings manner, another tall tale about a Band On The Run to somewhere where they can smoke their dope without being hassled by the man; and the lyrics are really fun – I especially like Paul’s timely reference to the newly-resigned tricky dick of a president. (But I can’t help note that the mildly-offensive term “Eskimo” probably wouldn’t appear in a song today.) Great guitar solos too! Anyways, I’ll take “Junior’s Farm”, thanks.

John Lennon on lead guitar: “Get Back ” or “You Can’t Do That “?

GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.
