Climbing up the Eiffel Tower. Much better exercise, much less cruel. Also, Edgar Allen Poe is dead.
Yellow matter custard or a ginger sling with a pineapple heart?

“Fool”. It seems the more heartfelt of the two works, where Kite is more about studio technique, atmosphere, imagery. Also, John’s precise vocal doesn’t leave much room for personality.
George’s “It’s been a long time” songs: “Long Long long” or “Here Comes The Sun “?

Agreed 100% with you there, vb, and I’m going to have to go with Long, Long, Long . So haunting and beautiful, and the dynamics are amazing. You really feel that it’s been a looooooong time.
Which sounds tastier to you — cool cherry cream with a nice apple tart or a ginger sling with a pineapple heart?

Good question! I think newspaper taxis. They’re artsier and I enjoy doodling them on the back of envelopes.
Songs for John by other Beatles: Here Today or All Those Years Ago

^Here Today . Even though I’m a George stan, ATYA doesn’t give me quite the same heartfelt vibes, it’s a little too sprightly. Here Today , on the other hand, breaks my heart into tiny fragments every time I hear it or play it — which I reserve for specific occasions.

I had to listen to them both again. World Without Love is much more Beatley-sounding, but I’ll go with It’s For You because I like the dynamics of the song, especially the way Cilla Black sings it. I also like Cilla, she seems fun.
Cilla songs by Lennon and McCartney: ‘Love of the Loved’ or ‘Step Inside Love’?
In re: the latter, I really like this demo in a lower key with Paul strumming and dooodoodooodooo-ing. 🙂

Step Inside Love is very beautiful and I like how in the Paul demo it sounds almost creepy. This is probably a just me thing but it sounds like what a serial killer would sing to their lover before or right after they killed them. That’s a weird reason to like a song, but it has such a haunting appeal.
Songs that I find hilarious: Chains or Please Mr. Postman?

OOf I can’t unhear that now, to me it always sounded just normal sexy seductive, not creepy seductive. Nonetheless, I think that’s a great reason to like a song
Maybe if I cover it I won’t sound like I’m planning to murder someone? Stay tuned…

Please Mr Postman is fun and I can see why you find it hilarious. Chains is a bit of a snoozefest for me.

@Beatlebug: I’m with you on Chains . It’s crap.
Girl Is Mine. I like how they’re fighting over her, and even after learning what she said to Jackson,Macca is still confident enough that he’ll win her in the end. I have Thriller on vinyl, and listen to it quite a bit.

I Feel Fine . Both excellent songs, but I Feel Fine has a better riff and I think a nicer vocal. Also you can’t beat that feedback intro.
( @Father McKenzie that’s true, I just have a bit of a soft spot for Beatles filler because it’s so consistently better than other musicians’ non-filler )

Hard one. ‘Lovely Rita ; probably just about wins it as it’s such a fun song yet the imagery in ‘Lucy’ makes it so cool and I love the little Lowrey bits at the end between the title line during the close.
Irritating as hell Paul remixes.
‘No More Lonely Night’ (Mole Mix) or ‘Say Say Say’ (12″ inch)?

“Say Say Say” is better because it’s not nine minutes long (and I think it’s the better song too.) Dunno what Paul and Arthur Baker were thinking, turning the ballad into the dance epic…
