I disagree, I think Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is the best Beatles love song. It is a love song that spans their relationship. It starts with Desmond liking Molly’s face then they have kids. They both have jobs and lives and even some personality plus the song is really up beat and fun.
That’s A Good Point….

I Think Till There Was You Was A Good Love Song….But I Think If You Made Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da slower and changed the lyrics (Like Hey Jude Said) Buy I Think All My Loving Takes It. In This Order….

Some are calling Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da the best love song but I’ve always seen it more as of a story song. How are we defining a love song? My view of a love song is a song addressed to someone, proclaiming your feelings or something along those lines. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is about two people who love each other, but it’s not a love song in the way that Something , If I Fell and All My Loving are.
Well, If I Fell is kind of, like, about want not wanting to get a broken heart. It’s really not about love or hate, it’s just he wants the girl to treat him right..

Time for a new debate! Fan’s like to pair up the Beatles romantically. I propose that all of the Beatles were part of a four way love relationship with each other cause after a steamy night in Hamburg they all became four lovers All Together Now and that is why the break up was so tough.

One – that would be almost completely impossible, logistically, just because of the five Hamburg trips Ringo was only there the last one (the December 1962 trip, if I have the date right), and that argument should have applied to Pete Best if it were to hypothetically have happened (and they didn’t care in the slightest about firing Pete).
(Also, this new debate makes me slightly nauseous.)

Maybe with their last trip they Hooked up with Ringo while Pete Best wasn’t there and from that moment they decided that Pete wasn’t chill with them and that lead to his departure.

Pete was sacked on the 16th August 1962, playing his last gig on the 15th (two performances). Ringo’s first appearance as a 100% Beatle was on the 18th August, Johnny Hutchinson filling the two day void.

While Ringo was only a member of The Beatles for one Hamburg visit, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes (with Ringo on drums) were often there at the same time as them. It was in Hamburg that they started to get to know Ringo better. The earliest photos of the Hurricanes drummer with members of The Beatles were taken in Hamburg during October and November 1960 when both bands were sharing the bill at the Kaiserkeller.
So, while Ringo may only have gone to Hamburg once as a Beatle, he was often there at the same time as them, and the Liverpool musicians playing the Reeperbahn spent a lot of time hanging out together during their time off (apart from Pete).

Not meaning to interrupt, but I just had to get this in. I think This Boy is a great love song. Have been listening to it a lot lately. Has a vulnerability to it which is endearing. And John’s voice is just…!
Sorry, & please carry on.

Since it has been nearly 2 years since the last post, time for a new topic:
Do you think it was John or George who played the guitar solo on Hey Bulldog ?
I personally think it was George because it fits his style more than John and also the guitar used during the solo was George’s Gibson SG.

Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters less so than Chuck Berry and Little Richard. I feel the stones and Clapton were more influenced by the really early guys than the Beatles.

I think they were influenced by blues insomuch as rock & roll was influenced by blues. So really I think any influences were inadvertent. In interviews for example I’ve never heard them mention any blues musicians, although I could be wrong.
I wouldn’t really describe the Beatles’ sound as bluesy, unless it’s the odd song like Yer Blues .

What was more of an improvement (or less of a disaster if you’re a purist) from their UK counterparts, Meet The Beatles! or Rubber Soul .
I’d say Meet The Beatles! for a few reasons:
1. Meet The Beatles! opens with I Want To Hold Your Hand , which is the perfect song to open on whereas It Won’t Be Long is a good opener but doesn’t quite grab you attention like I Want To Hold Your Hand .
On the contrary, I’ve Just Seen A Face isn’t any better or worse of an opener than Drive My Car , it just gives the album a different vibe.
2. Meet The Beatles! achieves it’s goal better than Rubber Soul . The former’s goal is to be an introduction to The Beatles and it does this by taking all the rock and roll covers off With The Beatles and starting off with both sides of their hit single plus the UK B-side. By doing this, you’re left with 11 originals and 1 cover compared to the 8 originals and 6 covers on With The Beatles .
On the contrary, the latter’s goal is to be a folk album and it does this by removing 4 songs and adding 2 songs from Help ! and while the 2 Help ! songs are definitely folk songs, 2 of the songs they removed (Nowhere Man and If I Needed Someone ) are folk songs and because they removed Nowhere Man , there’s 3 non-folk songs (You Won’t See Me , Think For Yourself , and The Word ) back to back.
3. Meet The Beatles! improves upon the cover more than Rubber Soul .
Before i explain, let’s take a look at these 4 covers:
If you look at the cover for With The Beatles , it looks boring, like someone saying “How would you like to come over for a cup of tea and we’ll listen to this pop record while sitting by the fireside”. But Capitol improved this by adding a blue tint and adding some color to the title while also adding a blurb underneath saying “The first album by England’s phenomenal pop combo”. Even the title is an improvement, changing from the boring With The Beatles to the exciting Meet The Beatles!.
On the contrary, the US cover looks like the UK cover after it’s spent a week submerged in coffee.
4. I prefer the songs removed from Rubber Soul , specifically Nowhere Man , over those removed from Meet The Beatles!.
If you're reading this, you are looking for something to do.
