John and Paul didnt write ‘Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand ‘ or ‘Sie Liebt Dich ‘, it was translated by Camillo Felgen from their English (going by Wiki – there are a few different names given but they are all thought to be pseudonyms).

Going by that we can have any singers who sang in any language aside from English. Elvis sang parts of ‘Wooden Heart’ in German, Debbi Harry sang ‘Sunday Girl’ in French. They didnt write it but they did sing it.

Would you call Lennon and McCartney poets anyway?

Anyway its not that big a deal. Moving on.

Tho you could argue that since Paul has released a book of lyrics and poetry he could be called a poet.

I’m not so sure about Beethoven and Tolkien though… The lyrics for Beethoven’s ninth belong to Schiller if I’m not wrong. I should go to Wikipedia to see if Tolkien also wrote poetry (I confess my ignorance). I was thinking something more in the line of Baudelaire, Schiller, Borges and Dante.

Forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit” (“Perhaps one day it will be a pleasure to look back on even this”; Virgil, The Aeneid, Book 1, line 203, where Aeneas says this to his men after the shipwreck that put them on the shores of Africa)

I believe Beethoven is a joke and a nod to Ringo’s comment on him –  “I like Beethoven, especially the poems“.

Then let’s delete him from the list.

C’mon people, this can’t be so difficult, you don’t have to say “Lennon & McCartney” to play the game. There are plenty of poets out there.

I could be wrong and Beethoven did write poems. ‘Ode to Joy’ could be poem about being happy and someone turned it into an instumental.a-hard-days-night-john-6
