I have an idea for a new game…
1 person suggests a song and a theme (different to the song). E.g. Get Back and apples.
Others can then attempt to rewrite at least one verse and the chorus to fit the new theme.
After a few attempts or once a week, the first person who submitted a rewritten song can then select a new song and theme.
I’ll start with what I’ve listed above…
Get Back and apples
Get those creative juices flowing…

I think people are doing this wrong. I don’t think it’s meant to be people giving a line that someone adds the next line to.
The OP says:

After a few attempts or once a week, the first person who submitted a rewritten song can then select a new song and theme.
So, I’ve ignored adding to the above lines, and offer this verse and chorus, though it might play a little loose with the theme of apples:
Apple had a rooftop
So we climbed the staircase
And we put on one last show
All the Boys together
Playing out for London
Man, you should have heard us goWe rocked, we rocked
We rocked together one last time
We rocked, we rocked
We rocked then we called it time
Sort of works…

Here’s my attempt at a more comedic approach, referencing how Let It Be came on a red Apple logo without the book in the US but with the green Apple logo and the book in Canada.
Verse 1:
Johnny was in the US with his wife Yoko, so he bought his new album
But when he opened it up, there wasn’t a book and the apple wasn’t green
Chorus:
Get Back , Get Back , Get Back to green apples or go
Get Back , Get Back , Get Back to green apples or go
Get Back Jojo
Solo 1 (spoken):
Apple
Apple
Repeat Chorus
Verse 2:
Johnny packed his bags and headed north and ended up in Toronto
There his album came as is just as he wanted, green apples and book and all
Repeat Chorus
Solo 2 (spoken):
Twist And Shout Long Tall Sally and get with the beat
Repeat Chorus
Outro (spoken):
I’d like to thank Paul White on behalf of the group ourselves, he’ll be receiving 6,000 apple pies with a capital A

@Ron Nasty making up your own lyrics is all fine and good but I think what we were doing was fun. Writing with other people, in my experience, generally tends to be a more fun process and often yields more creative results. I think if we want to continue with our joint creation we should be able to do so.

Not saying you should, @50yearslate, only saying that how I’ve understood the rules is how I’ve contributed.
We shall have to wait for @JW OBoogie to comment to discover whether one way or the other is how they wanted their game played, or whether both approaches are acceptable.

I had intended for individuals to write the whole verse and sentence as Ron Nasty has. However, I think both methods are great. Can we set up both as separate games?
I was also vague in my post last week on how to move this game forward. I suggest that people have a week (being 7 days, not 8) to post their versions and then the song/theme suggester picks the author of their favourite version to be the next suggester. I hope that’s clear to others as it reads like double dutch to me. Let me know if I need to clarify the clarification.
BTW Ron Nasty I love what you’ve done by stretching the theme a little.

The first round of this thrilling new game, guaranteed to entertain and enlighten, will come to an end soon (Friday morning Sydney time – sorry, IDK what that is in far off lands where a lot of the BB oompa loompa’s live). Cheers, @JW OBoogie (you have to learn to use the @ as I wouldn’t have known had I not strayed in here).
Okay, my song of choice is Yesterday and the theme is, being seasonal, Christmas.

Christmas Day
by Ebenezer Scrooge
Christmas Day,
I just love to work the hours away.
Slaving hard, no time to laugh or play.
Oh, I love my Christmas Day.
Charity,
what a joke it is to a man like me,
No one else deserves my company.
Oh, Christmas is a treat for me.
Why should I care so? My answer’s no, so go away.
You’ll get nothing here; disappear, and make my day.
Christmas Day,
It’s just like every other day.
There’s no need for a holiday.
Oh, I love my Christmas Day.
Why should I care so? My answer’s no, so go away.
You’ll get nothing here; disappear, and make my day.
Christmas Day,
It’s just like every other day.
There’s work right here for no more pay.
Oh, I love my Christmas Day.
Mm mm mm mm mm mm mm.
