Let’s try She’s Leaving Home (Friday morning at nine o’clock she is far away)
I’m co-campaign manager for my sister-in-laws run for mayor, so I won’t be giving my hourly guesses again till November. I’ll try to check-in at night as don’t want the thread to fadeaway.

A small hint:
* The number is significant.

Well, according to Douglas Adams in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy the number 42 is the answer to “the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything,” so I’ll roll the die with Across The Universe .
A reminder on when hints and clues can and should be given, as stated in the first post:
Commenting on whether somebody is close or going along the right lines is acceptable at any stage; hints that are more specific, such as suggesting the players should hone in on something particular about the picture, should not be used until after the 5th wrong guess (unless there has been no play in the game for 48 hours); a SOLID clue, such as which Beatle sang the song, must be given after the 9th wrong guess.
After two wrong guesses is far too soon in the game to be giving such specific hints.

There had been no play in the game for more than 48 hours between my post of 13 August and SB’s guess of 16 August.

And had you given the hint before sb’s post it would have been within the rules, @Richard, but you gave the hint less than 2 hours after the last guess in the game. That there had been a 48 hour gap before the most recent play doesn’t matter, the 48 hours starts ticking from the time of the most recent guess. Important to keep the game going, agreed, but we can’t just let the rules slip because game play is slow.

Thank you for your post, Ron. Maybe the rules should be modified slightly as it seems a bit paradoxical that it would have been all right to give the hint after just one wrong guess in this case, but not acceptable to wait and see if the second guess was heading in the appropriate direction beforehand? I’m happy with a little flexibility in this context. I appreciate that you are being respectful of the rules as they currently stand.
Also on the subject of the game rules, there was a discussion in this thread recently about whether it may be preferable to use the following list of albums for song selection:
Please Please Me
With The Beatles
A Hard Day’s Night
Beatles For Sale
Help !
Rubber Soul
Revolver
Sgt Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band
The Beatles (White Album )
Yellow Submarine
Abbey Road
Let It BeAlso:
Magical Mystery Tour – US
Past Masters 1
Past Masters 2
Live At The BBC 1
Live At The BBC 2
Anthology 1
Anthology 2
Anthology 3

I don’t really mind it as long as the “general” source is revealed after a few guesses. Otherwise the assumption is that it is from one of the albums listed and doubtful anyone is going to guess it.

This is a hard one. Using the newly-released session songs may put off some people from playing the game. However, most people who play the game are hardcore fans who will probably know about these releases. I’d say for now, let’s stick to the list in the spoilers. If we all agree, I can add the list to post 1 of the thread.

I think a huge pool of over 1000 new ‘songs and fragments’ might make the game entirely different and much harder, myself.

I think by going into the mire of the ‘Get Back ‘ sessions you’re putting off newbies and casual players whilst taking the game into at times almost impossible realms of deduction. The GB sessions are filled with deliberate lyric errors and changes from established Beatles, solo and cover tracks, in-jokes, half-cocked ideas from numerous people that were riffed for 30 seconds before discarded and random rehearsals/jams. It’s a minefield.
There are something like 300 released Beatles tracks to chose from if utilising the BBC, Anthology and [maybe] Deluxe albums, surely that is a big enough pool.
Songs like God Save The Queen (‘Get Back – The Rooftop Performance’ album) come into contention now. The point about potentially putting off newbies and casual players is concerning. I can see reasoning both ways but, on balance, I think it may be wise now to select songs from that list of 20 albums.
@Ron Nasty, what is your opinion on this subject, please?

I’m trying to place Monument Valley within the 42 space, but not quite there yet. There are several songs that reference the answer, but first I’ll try for the 7M years it took to discover 42; its been a Long, Long, Long time.

What about “The Long And Winding Road “? Is that route 42 referencing the route 42 in the U.S. ?

. I don’t want to steal what I assume is your guess (Get Back ), so I’ll go with Revolution 1 , which reflects the Guides tenant “Don’t panic”. (Don’t you know it’s gonna be alright)

That’s an interesting coincidence, Timothy. In his post above, Ron has spotted the appropriate connection: “according to Douglas Adams in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy the number 42 is the answer to “the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.”
