“She’s well acquainted with the touch of the velvet hand”
Elizabeth Taylor’s first starring role, at the age of 12, was in National Velvet playing the role of Velvet Brown.

Cover, eh? Well, Liz won her first Oscar (in what was believed to be partly a sympathy vote, she being hospitalized before and during the ceremony) for playing (in “Butterfield 8”) a glamourous Manhattan professional escort, a call girl, in other words, someone at the opposite end of the financial spectrum from her fellow sex worker across the Atlantic (from the nation of Taylor’s birth in fact): poor “Maggie Mae .”
Is that it?

Hint: Cover
Not my song VB, but I did thoroughly enjoy your explanation. I believe she used to make me feel happy (inside), before I knew what that was all about.
Hint 2: Now that you have all identified the actress, the remainder of the clue exists within the image. No other outside information is necessary.

I see what you did there I’m thinking maybe the clue has something to do with your profile. Perhaps you were also born in Pontrhydyfen? That might be a little farfetched, so I’ll try Honey Pie (north of England way).

That’s an interesting idea, SB, but the answer doesn’t have anything to do with my profile. I was born in the north of England. The village of Pontrhydyfen is in the south of Wales.
No:
Honey Pie
* This puzzle may need a hint, but let’s see how it goes for a few rounds.

Thanks for the guidance Rich! Maybe something to do with Liz. If I remember he was infatuated with her and the tabloids reported on them constantly. Ballad Of John And Yoko (The newspapers said, “She’s gone to his head”)

Man, my family is having a hard week with a kidney failure, a new covid case, and strep throat. I bought a new case of KN95s and plan to wear them through the end of summer (at least).
I was thinking maybe Burton was connected to King Lear (of I Am The Walrus fame), but that appears to not be the case. I find lots of pictures of Dick & Liz at star studded parties, so I’ll try Baby, You’re A Rich Man (How does it feel to be one of the Beautiful People?)

I’m sorry about your family’s health issues, SB, and I hope for speedy recoveries for everyone concerned. Regarding the KN95s, we are also still being quite careful here for now.

Small hint:
* Richard Burton was an avid reader, and he is shown reading a book in the picture. It may be a book that is relevant to the song I have in mind.

You seem to be pointing me in the direction of Virginia Wolfe. I recall two of the main characters in Mrs. Dalloway are named Richard and Elizabeth, but I can’t think of a corresponding lyric. Maybe another one of her books like Night and Day, used in the song I’ll Get You (I think about you night and day).

That’s basically the appropriate line of thought, SB, but another well-known author instead.

Perhaps the author is a fellow Welch man, Dylan Thomas. I know Burton is connected in several ways to Under Milk Wood, which Paul credits as his inspiration for Penny Lane (I had to look that one up in my new book) .

Maybe I’m in the wrong era. Perhaps your author is Terry Southern. Burton and Ringo both starred in the movie Candy based on his novel.
Therefore (with best regards to Virginia and Dylan), I’m going with Savoy Truffle
