The Beatles’ version of The Sheik Of Araby includes “not ‘alf” after the first verse. As mentioned in The Sheik Of Araby discussion thread, this is slang roughly along the lines of “very good” in meaning – with a little innuendo in this context. The disc jockey and radio personality, Alan Freeman, often used this expression in his radio broadcasts, such as ‘Pick of the Pops’.
