My view is that all of these songs should be from official releases.
That’s quite a number of songs anyway considering that, for example, ‘Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962’ is deemed to be an officially released album.

I have pondered this since the question was originally asked and I’m of two minds. It would give the game more options and most BBers would be up to the challenge of pinning down bootleg songs. But it might limit some players and potentially turn off new members. So despite some initial desire to say yes, I’m now on the side of no.

Offline Good morning AG! Per your question, I did a deep dive into the thread the other day to search for songs that have never been used. I don’t recall encountering one instance of a boot being played in this game. The closest songs in that category are from the Anthology and Deluxe Anniversary boxes that contain canon songs with alternate lyrics. So I don’t think saying no to bootleg songs is a restriction the typical guesser will even notice. If you want to make it clearer, you could publish a list of available sources in the rules. The album list I use includes:
