You’re up @Richard. I was specifically thinking of Take 20, not Escher, but I would have given credit for either.  And special thanks to @sigh butterfly for resurfacing my portrait.

RE: “finished bits of crap,” that was John’s opinion of the song and Polythene Pam

Man, I just listened to that version the other day and saw Terms of Endearment a couple of weekends ago.

Maybe What’s The New Mary Jane ? Looks like it might be wool so… (Mongolian lamb). Also 4-1 = Anthology 3 a-hard-days-night-john-7a-hard-days-night-john-7a-hard-days-night-john-7

Yes, it’s wool, sigh butterfly – I’ll add that fact as the second clue.

No (x3):
Norwegian Wood
Magical Mystery Tour
What’s The New Mary Jane

Clues:
* 4-1
* This item is made of wool

And in the end

The love you take is equal to the love you make

Maybe the 4-1 is referring to album/track. That would make the song No Reply . The only reference I can find to wool is “But I saw you peep through your window”.

^I thought of that before but went the other way, with track/album – which would make it Chains , and I can’t find anything about wool in that song!

ahdn_paul_06 I thought it was 4-1=3 but I couldn’t find a fit either. I read through the lyrics of 3 Cool Cats twice.

Wonderful suggestions!

I’ll add another clue.

(I won’t include Chains and Three Cool Cats in the list because the posters mentioned they couldn’t find a fit for the wool reference anyway.)

No (x5):
Norwegian Wood
Magical Mystery Tour
What’s The New Mary Jane
No Reply
Back In The USSR

Clues:
* 4-1
* This item is made of wool
* Munich

And in the end

The love you take is equal to the love you make

With A Little Help From My Friends ?

* 4-1 (=3) – 1967 and Paul is dead begins, 3 Beatles left
* This item is made of wool (Billy Shears) – process by which the woollen fleece of a sheep is cut off
* Munich (What would you think if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me?) -the Beatles were a bit out of practice and had some onstage mess-ups during the first show in Munich

Brilliantly deduced suggestion, sigh butterfly, but…

No (x6):
Norwegian Wood
Magical Mystery Tour
What’s The New Mary Jane

Back In The USSR
With A Little Help From My Friends

I’ll add another clue.

Clues:
* 4-1
* This item is made of wool
* Munich
* Don’t go nude

And in the end

The love you take is equal to the love you make

A real puzzler! Maybe Ballad of John and Yoko?

* 4-1-69 (John and Yoko “Caught the early plane back to London”)
* This item is made of wool (“clothes”)
* Munich (the 1966 German tour was named Blitztournee (Lightning Tour);”Made a lightning trip”)
* Don’t go nude two-virgins

Wonderful lines of reasoning again, sigh butterfly, but…

No (x7):
Norwegian Wood
Magical Mystery Tour
What’s The New Mary Jane
No Reply
Back In The USSR
With A Little Help From My Friends
The Ballad Of John And Yoko

Hopefully this additional clue will help to bring all the strands together.

Clues:
* 4-1
* This item is made of wool
* Munich
* Don’t go nude
* Sport

And in the end

The love you take is equal to the love you make

Eleanor Rigby

It’s on 4 albums as well as “1.”

Wool : Darning his socks

On Paul’s Munich playlist

Don’t go nude: the toes get cold if the socks aren’t mended.

Sport: the Eleanor Rigby segment of the movie Yellow Submarine features a team playing soccer or football in repeated animated images

It’s a long shot.

Again that’s very impressive reasoning, but…

No (x8):
Norwegian Wood
Magical Mystery Tour
What’s The New Mary Jane
No Reply
Back In The USSR
With A Little Help From My Friends
The Ballad Of John And Yoko
Eleanor Rigby

You’re right about the specific sport, U.C.Nothing. It’s football (or ‘soccer’ as it’s known in some countries).

Clues:
* 4-1
* This item is made of wool
* Munich
* Don’t go nude
* Sport – specifically football (a.k.a. soccer)

Okay I’ll give it another shot…

Can’t Buy Me Love

In Hard Day’s Night, there’s a scene where the boys are running around in a ballpark, with the song playing.

Sport clue: Boys at ballpark.

4-1 clue: John wasn’t there and director Dick Lester played the body double.

Wool, Munich, etc.: No idea.
