for the tiebreaker I removed my own vote

Very diplomatic and a reasonable solution, even though I also picked HTnE.

1. A Day In The Life   C’mon!

2. I’ve Got A Feeling

3. Polythene Pam Neither is an especial favorite so I went with the Abbey Road aspect

4. And Your Bird Can Sing

5. I’m Down Like ’em both, but I often think of/hear in my head Elton’s Lucy and that tipped it

6. Help !

7. Hey Bulldog

8. Yesterday Wasn’t sure which way to go, but I realized I was singing Y’day, not Rita, so that’s what I’ll vote

1. Michelle (while ADITL is a feckin masterpiece, I love Michelle on a deeper and more sentimental level even if its not that strong a tunea-hard-days-night-paul-7)

2. I’ve Got A Feeling (sexy, crazy, cool and we get Paul’s beard voice)

3. Lady Madonna (a bop– Polythene Pam is a bit too aggressive for my liking)

4. And Your Bird Can Sing (I love this song and also MMT is absolute garbage and probably my least favorite Beatles song by far)

5. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds (the bassline is playing in my head constantly at all times)

6. Help ! (FMTY is cute but Help ! is a) a bop and b) is John being vulnerable, which I prefer, + he has a good vocal performance and c) great backing vocals)

7. Hey Bulldog (TOP 5 BEATLES SONGS EASY the riff the bass the wacko lyrics that somehow carry a cool and applicable message ugh its so goooooood)

8. Lovely Rita (Yesterday is a classic hands down but its also mega-overplayed. LR is also one of my favorite beatle tunes– and also *points to username*)

A Day In The Life – #1 seed for a reason. I don’t see this one getting beat until late in the tourney.

I’ve Got A Feeling. This is a tough one because I love the guitar solo so much in Fixing A Hole

Lady Madonna . I love both, Lady Madonna is slightly more complete olus the medley is a #1 seed in another section so bits of the medley will still have a shot.

And Your Bird Can Sing – Amazing song one of my favorites.

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

Help self explanatory Help is an all timer

Sun King – Most psychedelic song ever

Lovely Rita – Another tough one, but yesterday doesn’t have a honky tonk piano solo.

This round will be open for a handful more hours today, then onto the next.

You should still be able to join in, my understanding is that it’s closed when swr releases the next bracket

A Day In The Life vs. 32 Michelle

15 Fixing A Hole vs. 18 I’ve Got A Feeling

11 Lady Madonna vs. 22 Polythene Pam

And Your Bird Can Sing vs. 26 Magical Mystery Tour

Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds vs. 24 I’m Down

Help vs. 28 From Me To You

Hey Bulldog vs. 30 Sun King

13 Lovely Rita vs. 20 Yesterday

‘ADITL’. Love ‘Michelle ‘, one of the songs that has grow most on me over the years (Paul’s vocal is stunning in its vulnerability), but it’s ‘ADITL’. Enough said in this battle.

‘IGAF’. It totally rocks whereas ‘FAH’ is mostly for the backing vocals.

‘PP’. Don’t really care for ‘LM’, it bumbles along for a couple of minutes nicely but not much else. It’s silly but it rocks.

‘AYBCS’. No contest, not even close.

‘ID’. ‘LITSWD’ has some great moments but I’ve always adored ‘ID’, it just rocks (and special note for the brilliant take 1 and the exquisite German mess of a live performance).

‘H!’. I adore ‘FMTY’ but ‘H!’ is simply better all round.

‘HB’. ‘SK’ is so beautiful and features one of the most gorgeous and relaxing intro pieces ever but ‘HB’ is one of the greatest sleepers. Sits on an average album, cut from some pressings of the film, thrown away by the band, tossed out as they had to make a promo for ‘LM’. It should not be anywhere close to being this good.

‘Y’. ‘LR’ is a lot of fun but not enough to rival ‘Y’.

This thread brought this thought to mind: Beatle song and album abbreviations are like a code that we only understand……

Like if I typed “H!” or “ADITL” or “MMT” in this forum we’re all like “oh yeah that song/album I understand yeet” but if I put it anywhere outside the forum people will have no idea what I’m getting at most likely

For example:

meanmistermustard said

‘Y’. ‘LR’ is a lot of fun but not enough to rival ‘Y’.

Out of the context of this forum, wtf is this supposed to mean, y’know?

That’s true rita. If you wrote “IGAF” anywhere else, you’d definitely get a different reaction!

Very exciting round. Polythene Pam and I’m Down both advanced on tiebreakers. We also see major hits such as Yesterday and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds being eliminated in the first round.

Next round goes like this

4 In My Life vs. 24 Your Mother Should Know

17 You’re Gonna Lose That Girl vs. 16 I Should Have Known Better

25 Good Morning Good Morning vs. I Saw Her Standing There

23 Hello Goodbye vs. 10 Back In the U.S.S.R

21 Savoy Truffle vs. 12 I’m So Tired

27 Love You To vs 6 Day Tripper

19 Across The Universe (Album) vs. 14 If I Fell

31 Blackbird vs. 2 Rain

1. In My Life – so sweet, so sentimental

2. You’re Going To Lose That Girl – both nice mid-range Beatle songs but YGLTG is better

3. I Saw Her Standing There – ONE, TWO, THREE, FAH

4. Hello, Goodbye – I think my picking might be controversial, I like BITUSSR but I want to listen to HG more than it.

5. Savoy Truffle – fun, peppy but IST has far better vocals. It was a toss-up and my loyalty to George favours ST.

6. Love You To – I love that guitar and sitar but I also love DT, another toss-up.

7. Across The Universe – because it’s the album version I prefer it, the WWF version can bite me

8. YOU MONSTER, YOU MONSTER!!! Blackbird – although Rain is also a bloody fantastic song, Blackbird ‘s beauty wins out today!

INTROVERTS UNITE! Separately....in your own homes!

In My Life  vs. 24 Your Mother Should Know

17 You’re Gonna Lose That Girl vs. 16 I Should Have Known Better

25 Good Morning Good Morning  vs. I Saw Her Standing There

23 Hello Goodbye  vs. 10 Back In the U.S.S.R

21 Savoy Truffle  vs. 12 I’m So Tired

27 Love You To  vs 6 Day Tripper

19 Across The Universe  (Album) vs. 14 If I Fell

31 Blackbird  vs. 2 Rain

‘IML’  – like being asked to pick between your only child and a rotting sewer rat.

‘YGTLTG’ – hard to choose, really hard, but Ringo’s bongo’s tip the balance.

‘GM, GM’ – “1, 2, 3, 4….” indeed and my how good is the song live but I love ‘GM, GM’. The horns, the animals, the crashing drums.

‘HG’ – I’ve never cared for ‘BITUSSR’ whilst there is enough in ‘HG’ to keep the interest up (take 1 is so much fun to listen to).

‘IST’ – simply a better song.

‘DT’ – both have intro’s that rank so highly in my favourites but ‘DT’ is so damn catchy with the guitar riff and vocals. It’s also my 11:55am alarm and I have yet to tire of it.

‘IIF’ – I really dislike the ‘LIB ‘ mix of ‘ATU’; slow and incredibly dull (the ‘PM’ mix is just as rotten).

‘Blackbrd’ – It’s really hard to opt for one over the other but the simplicity of the former takes it, just. It is incredibly close.

Good to see some love for Polythene Pam – never thought it would get through!

4 In My Life vs. 24 Your Mother Should Know

17 You’re Gonna Lose That Girl vs. 16 I Should Have Known Better

25 Good Morning Good Morning vs. I Saw Her Standing There

23 Hello Goodbye vs. 10 Back In the U.S.S.R

27 Love You To vs 6 Day Tripper

19 Across The Universe (Album) vs. 14 If I Fell

31 Blackbird vs. 2 Rain

In My Life . Sorry Paul, IML is a classic

You’re Gonna Lose That Girl. Near perfect song, it is!

I Saw Her Standing There . GMGM is ok, ISHST is better.

Hello Goodbye . I always forget how much I love it, especially Ringoahdn_ringo_09ahdn_ringo_09ahdn_ringo_09

Savoy Truffle . The saxes, the bassline, the lyrics…

Day Tripper . Love You To isn’t bad but DT will beat it every time.

If I Fell . Very tight one, couldn’t choose. Gave my vote to (what I think will be) the underdog

Rain . Blackbird doesn’t do much for me

1. In My Life #2 all time for me!

2. Your Gonna Lose That Girl great scenes in their respective movies!  I wanted to go with ISHKB for the harmonica, but YGLTG is just better all around

3. I Saw Her Standing There toughest choice of the bracket…went with Her because it seems a bit more “iconic” if that makes sense. Probably not a better song but       really helps define it’s era.

4. HG

5. I’m So Tired one of their best songs at selling it’s premise

6. Day Tripper

7. If I Fell ATU has never done much for me

8. Rain

1. In My Life (terrific, beautiful, heartbreaking song– no contest!)

2. Your Gonna Lose That Girl (now it’s stuck in my head, dammit!)

3. I Saw Her Standing There (frickin’ rock n roll classic, even if Paul did rip the bassline from Chuck Berry ahdn_paul_02.  GMGM is good but can’t compare to the ethos and groove of ISHST)

4. Hello, Goodbye (a very fun song that I really love)

5. I’m So Tired (ST is alright but IST is just so emotionally raw and is one of my favorite John tunes)

6. Day Tripper (classic riff, groovy af, and has fantastically ripping vocals)

7. If I Fell (IIF is probably in my top 10 favorite Beatles songs– it was one of the first that I really fell in love with. The harmonies in the vocals are just fantastic and just pull at the heartstrings. I always daydream about my future SO and I dancing to this at our wedding)

8. Blackbird  (*chef’s kiss*heart)

"....When I cannot sing my heart, I can only speak my mind...."

"....This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, this ain't no fooling around...."

Hmmm… the Abbey Road medley? Idk I guess it was on the forum poll ranking but is it fair to put seven songs against others? It will wipe out like five rounds before it even gets the possibility of getting defeated and we’re already voting for those tracks separately.

I thought about removing the medley and keeping the individual tracks or vice versa. Number one seeds should be a juggernaut, but I agree the medley may be a bit too much. Also i know that that picture is really hard to read and I apologize. The next round will be much clearer.
