I know very little of Ringo’s solo career after ‘Stop And Smell The Roses’, and to be truthful I have next to no desire to spend hours listening to it. If doing solo it may be more worthwhile either going with the 70’s or select albums. I’m happy to go with anything but having only four albums is about 50 tracks which won’t last very long and is very George heavy (‘ATMP 23, BOTR, I, R 10 each). You could expand to include two albums from the other three to be more balanced but then you have the argument of two albums for them but only one for George. Do the 70’s and Paul has more albums.
Basically, everything has drawbacks and arguments against so go with whatever.

I just finished my last essay of the semester so I’m open to running the next tournament in the near future. The easiest choice would probably be a 64 song loser’s bracket but we could add another 64 from the rankings.
I’m in favor of some kind of solo bracket, but I understand that not everybody holds on to every last track from these guys like I do, so we could limit it to 70s tracks, or we could do a bracket with 32 albums
13 by the Beatles + BBC Love and Anthologies, and then 16 solo records. Would people be down for that? we could put the solo and beatles albums in different divisions, and I could count the last nine or so post from this album ranking thread for the seeding.
So the vote comes down to
32 seed album all purpose bracket
Loser + expanded Beatles song bracket

But you don’t want to lose all the great non-LP singles either.Paul’s catalogue is so much broader and deeper than the others’, it’s hard to think about how to make it fair. It would be easy to pick like 30 John, George or Ringo songs. It would be a LOT harder to narrow Paul down to 30 tunes.
(Why do I now expect to see someone come up with 30 song lists for each…?)
I’m going to come up with some potential lists with songs from all four. I’m not sure it would have to be equal output from each person. Paul could have a larger amount of tracks than Ringo, but a potential matchup of say, Let Em In vs Six O’Clock would be fascinating as Paul wrote both songs. Plus heavyweight vs heavyweight John Paul and George are on the same level in my eyes. I’m not sure how to equalize the output, I’m just going to go through the catalogs and compile while we get another bracket running.
The solo songs bracket is going to challenge and may take a while to plan out as a group, so I figure we could run less complicated bracket in the meantime.

I think a 70s solo song bracket would be great. Paul and George recorded throughout the 70s, John recorded 5 proper albums plus Rock ‘N’ Roll . Ringo doesn’t have so many good songs but does have some!

Don’t count Ringo out, he’s got some giant killers in his discography. I’d definitely put money on something like “Photograph”, “It Don’t Come Easy,” “Back Off Boogaloo,” or “Early 1970” to make a STRONG showing.

Might be an idea to go for their solo singles.

Just wondering if you could have a bracket for Beatle and solo albums? I’m not thinking of all the albums, but all the Beatle albums including Past Masters 1 and 2 (but may leave out Yellow Submarine ) and choose 10 solo albums.
We could have 8 seeded albums, all Beatles (AHDN , Help , Rubber Soul , Revolver , Sgt Pepper , White Album , Abbey Road , Let It Be ) These would go straight into the next round.
The remaining Beatle albums (minus Yellow Submarine ) could be joined by 10 solo albums. These could be for example:
John – POB, Imagine and Walls & Bridges
Paul – Ram , BOTR and Chaos & Creation
George – ATMP , LITMW and 33 1/3
Ringo – Ringo
This would total 16 and if these had a play off, they would be reduced to 8 and these could join the seeded albums in the next round, making a last 16.
To make it a proper 32 bracket, Yellow Submarine could be included along with 7 more solo albums!
It would be interesting to see how the best solo albums fared against Beatle albums!
What do people think?

I like the idea, Double Fantasy and Mind Games must be included, as should Flaming Pie and McCartney, and Extra Texture , George Harrison and Cloud 9. I like the expanded version more. I can run the bracket unless someone else wants to give it a go

@sir walter raleigh that would be great if you could run the bracket!
If the 13 studio albums plus the 2 Past Master albums are included, that totals 15 and allows 17 solo albums. Maybe the easiest way to divide them is to give John, Paul and George, 5 albums each and Ringo 2.
Ringo’s best two, or most celebrated, are probably ‘Ringo’ and ‘Goodnight Vienna’
John’s are ‘POB’, ‘Imagine ‘, ‘Mind Games ‘, ‘Walls & Bridges’ and ‘Double Fantasy ‘ (though think I prefer ‘Sometime in NYC’ to ‘DF’)
Paul’s will be tricky to choose as he has so many, but I would suggest ‘McCartney’, ‘Ram ‘, ‘BOTR’, ‘Flaming Pie ‘ and ‘Chaos & Creation’. (‘Tug Of War ‘ maybe?)
George is maybe a little easier? ‘ATMP ‘, ‘Living in the Material World’, ’33 1/3′, ‘George Harrison ‘ and ‘Cloud 9’ (though a case could be made for ‘Extra Texture ‘ and ‘Brainwashed‘ if Brainwashed were allowed, being a posthumous release.)
Maybe a preliminary contest to choose the solo albums could be carried out? Everyone lists their 5 albums, and the ones with most votes are included?
Next, will the contest be seeded? This would avoid ‘Revolver ‘ v ‘Rubber Soul ‘ or ‘BOTR’ v ‘ATMP ‘ in the first round, but it might be tricky to decide on 16 seeded albums. Maybe the 8 most acclaimed Beatles and 8 most acclaimed solo albums could be seeded? The seeding could ensure that 4 Beatles and 1 solo album from each artist, were in each side of the draw. 2 solo albums each could be seeded? The other 16 would be a free draw?!
Anyway, let’s see what others think.
It could be fun to do!

I like your picks for the solo albums aside from excluding Extra Texture . I’m still a bit stumped on the best way to decide which solo albums are to be included where. Maybe we can seed it by album sales, and feature the top 32 or 64 selling Beatles/Solo records in order of success.

I think 64 could work … all Beatles, all John’s including Milk & Honey, all Paul’s, all George’s including Brainwashed and then fill the rest with Ringo’s. There may be some albums that people haven’t heard but that could be the case no matter how many the bracket is.
16 suggested seeded albums in no particular order, but pair off a Beatle album with a solo album?
A Hard Day’s Night , Help !, Rubber Soul , Revolver , Sgt. Pepper , White Album , Abbey Road , Let It Be ,
Plastic Ono Band, Imagine , Ram , Band On The Run , All Things Must Pass , Living In The Material World , Ringo and Ringo’s Rotogravure.
If only doing a 32 bracket, then go back to my previous suggestion?

I’ve had a go at making a preliminary bracket of Beatles and solo Beatles albums …. I’ve seeded 16 albums, of my choice (8 Beatles and 8 solo) and filled in the gaps … what do you think? Could be fun!?
If you think it is a good idea, someone will have to do the proper bracket thing as my computer skills won’t stretch to that! lol

Ouch! Some impossible choices. I may have to flip a coin on some of these. Or put the titles in a hat and draw one out.

This is nicely done. The seeding is done based on preference? That should be fine unless we want to figure out a more objective way to measure it. I can try to form this into a real bracket however no promises that I can get it done soon.
