‘Strawberry Fields Forever ‘ – possibly the most perfect song. A mixture of chaos, harmony, confusion and sense all bundled together where somehow it just works so brilliantly. The lyrics I relate to so much as well.

Going into today’s voting, I thought my choice was easy and already made: I was going to vote for SFF. But @Beatlebug’s comment about feeling like they heard In My Life in a past life surprisingly resonated with me. So thanks, now I have to actually think about this
Is In My Life the underdog? Absolutely. Is it a more pretty or personal or profound song? Intuition would suggest it is, but I’m not sure that truly is the case. In My Life is pretty one-note when it comes to the mood and tone of the song: Strawberry Fields Forever , by contrast, has a kaleidoscopic vision the likes of which had never been seen in popular music before, at least to my knowledge. In My Life feels like the perfect love song: Strawberry Fields Forever feels like the perfect song, period. There’s just so much there, it’s like an entire world unto itself. If In My Life is a profound thought, then Strawberry Fields Forever is a fully formed statement. As someone who also writes poetry from time to time, I can relate to @lovelyritametermaid’s reasoning: however, I am a philosopher before I am a poet, and SFF speaks to me on that level much more. And besides, even if part of me does feel like I’ve heard In My Life in a past life, Strawberry Fields Forever speaks to my literal past life–my childhood–much more. And so, while it might be only number 5 or so in my personal rankings, I have to go with Strawberry Fields Forever on this one.

Does anyone believe that Paul wrote all the music to ‘In My Life ‘ himself?
I don’t believe that. John said that Paul helped with the middle 8 and harmonies. It just doesn’t feel like a Paul melody, to me it feels very John. That’s not very scientific, but it’s my gut. Perhaps Paul misremembers his role in this one, they both certainly helped each other with bits and pieces when they weren’t explicitly collaborating all the time…
I believe In My Life was truly the ultimate collaboration. I have no doubt that Paul and George Martin contributed great to not only the recording, but the construction of the song and composition. John was no doubt behind many of the core elements to the song that just feel like his style. It is one of the reasons it is such a great song. For that reason it is my choice for the finals.
I’m pleased with the matchup. Definitely two of my all time favorite songs. Both highlights of the middle period of The Beatles.

I imagine this has been posted on the forum before, but I just found it and read it for the first time myself, so…
Apparently some mathematicians did an analysis of Lennon and McCartney’s songs and In My Life , according to their analysis, is overwhelmingly “John-like.”
Of course, ultimately this means nothing, but it’s very interesting…

Props to George Martin, too, who helped to shape virtually everything they recorded.

Sir Walter, would you add the completed brackets to post 1 of the thread so we can find them easily?

The result – Strawberry Fields Forever . A very deserving song to win the bracket. This was fun.
Ill try to get the completed bracket as well as empty templates. I can change the format to have a white background to make it a little bit easier to fill out.

Can you guess who my favorite Beatle is?
You really honoured the name of the song. It was Here, There And Everywhere on your bracket. Great first spot, wouldn’t be my pick but it’s nice to see Paul appreciation around.

Here are the final brackets. The blank brackets should be in the first post of this thread. Unfortunately, you must find your own way to fill them out using an image editing program to add text boxes to the brackets, as the bracket website I used can only be filled out by my account. I’ll update it to have white backgrounds.

Would we rather do the next bracket using the first round users of the last bracket? Or should we make a new one for solo tracks or do one for Albums Beatles and solo included. If anybody wants to try their hand at running a bracket, feel free. Just come up with an idea and make a post saying what it is. Let’s just make sure we only have one bracket going at once.
So there are three potential options I’ve thought of
Loser’s bracket
Solo tracks bracket
Full career album bracket
There will definitely be a break between this and the next bracket so this will be open to discussion for a while.

I think it will be a bit interesting to try our hands at the “Full career album bracket,” since they’ll be much more to analyze in order to value our decisions
