A word in support of While My Guitar Gently Weeps – that little piano riff that kicks it off is a PERFECT example of Beatles being Beatles. Paul adding this perfect little piano part that beautifully complements the rest of the track without overshadowing anything is exactly why the Beatles made such great records – they all contributed so well to each others’ work, always in support of the tune. It makes me happy every single time I listen to it.
I love Dear Prudence , but it’s no match for WMGGW.

Okay if you really wanna do this, I don’t like that piano. I think it’s too bright, acute, annoying and jumpy to fit in the song. It is yet another reason why it can’t even begin to compare to a masterpiece like Dear Prudence , probably the best song ever made.

WMGGW – Once again I’m going to have to call out @Jules who is going on a one-man crusade against this song the likes of which I’ve never seen. I’m not sure what else I can say in its defense. I definitely don’t need to defend it, everybody knows how great it is. Everything you find an issue I find to be a success, and the overall product is sensational. It is the stuff of legends. The progression is perfect, the lyrics are perfect, and Clapton is absolutely wailing. Get it together man.
We all have one I guess
Don’t worry Jules, I agree with you! Perhaps not to the extent of sheer hatred but I agree with 90% of what you’re saying about WMGGW

I guess some of my hyperbole comes down to the fact it is against Dear Prudence , which is a song that I really love in comparison. But yeah, sure, WMGGW for “normal standards” is a good song.

And we are on to the final four!
I wish I didn’t have to say this, but the last Paul song has been eliminated in this bracket after a brutal tiebreaker
George’s bid to the final four fell short; and after an intense debate, he was eliminated
John’s FINAL FOUR:

In My Life – “I know I often stop and think about them, in my life I love you more“
SFF – A nearly impossible choice but SSf is a turning point and a landmark whereas DP is a gem of all gems.

A damn shame AYBCS was eliminated.
I’ll be voting for both #1 seed songs – I simply don’t like the other songs nearly as much.

This is…. extremely difficult.
I’m going to go with In My Life & Dear Prudence , since they fit my mood better today.

BeatlebugI've been up on the mountain, and I've seen his wondrous grace,
I've sat there on the barstool and I've looked him in the face.
He seemed a little haggard, but it did not slow him down,
he was humming to the neon of the universal sound.

I Am The Walrus vs In My Life : In My Life – I’m sorry to see ‘For No One ‘ go, but maybe Paul lives on in ‘In My Life ‘, IF he wrote the music?! I do really like ‘I Am The Walrus ‘ and it is one of my favourites, but ‘In My Life ‘ just a wee bit more so! ‘In My Life ‘ would also have beaten ‘For No One ‘!
Strawberry Fields Forever vs Dear Prudence : Strawberry Fields Forever – Two Brilliant songs and two favourites but I think ‘SFF’ is my favourite Beatle song, but we shall see if it makes it to the final!

*weeps uncontrollably for ten seconds* Okay, impossible choices time!
I Am The Walrus vs In My Life : In My Life all the way!
Strawberry Fields Forever vs Dear Prudence : O o f. It’s gonna have to be Dear Prudence . This is not an intellectual choice, this is a what-would-I-rather-listen-to choice. It’s close, but give me some acousticpicking please.

I Am The Walrus vs In My Life
Well, I can’t say neither is better than the other. But taking into account how good both are, and how pleased I am this four final tracks are all tracks that I love so I won’t be mad at anything loosing, I’m gonna look at it with a different perspective. What song would I rather listen to? I think I Am The Walrus is a very good psychedelic choice, and one that pushes boundaries up and beyond. It is confident, it is weird, it is original and funny. In My Life is my pick. Let’s start by saying that In My Life is the best song on its album when I Am The Walrus isn’t. Then, In My Life is more clean, everything in the track sounds perfectly balanced, all of the instruments and voices are perfectly mixed, the lyrics are touching, it is minimalist but still kind of grand in how iconic it is. It conveys more with less, and it isn’t trying to impress you. It comes from a more honest place, it has a clearer soul, you can play it in your guitar whenever you feel lonely, you can play it in your stereo whenever you feel sexy. I Am The Walrus is a critic’s song, In My Life is for everyone else.
Ok look. I’m gonna be honest with you. Strawberry Fields Forever is easily a 10/10, a track that is infinitely interesting, it can bend spheres with how original it is and how well edited all of it results. I love it, and everything added to that track is done with a perfect balance between a wise forward-thinking mindset and a crazy/random youthful attitude. The Beatles, essentially. But, *longest sigh ever*, Dear Prudence is the way to go. Strawberry Fields Forever technically is more interesting but it gets harder to listen to once you get past the first two verses. Some of the drumming in the latter part of the song is kind of difficult, the horns are over-dubbed, the sitar comes out of nowhere, the reprise of the latter part of the song (while I love) it sounds… bad? I don’t know how to describe my feelings about it. Mind you, all of this only adds to how unique that song is, but Dear Prudence is perfect in every single aspect. It has an unparalleled progression, it feels connected with itself, and it doesn’t try to impress you with dorky sounds and instruments, but with true evolution and class. Dear Prudence advances not by adding things, but with expanding on what’s already been established. The instruments don’t change, the song changes. Dear Prudence is THE song. Strawberry Fields Forever is more of a… very successful experiment. Strawberry Fields Forever is a milkshake, Dear Prudence is fine wine. Strawberry Fields Forever is a shirt with a hilarious quote, Dear Prudence is a $5,000 suit. Strawberry Fields Forever is your high school sweetheart, Dear Prudence is your beloved wife. Strawberry Fields Forever is Star Wars, Dear Prudence is The Godfather.
