We share In My Life in common but I’ll take you, Quarry. George shall reign victorious!!!
Also if we’re doing the worst-ranked songs after this, can we do it as ‘the worst Beatle song’ instead of ‘the best worst Beatles song’ and put a ban on Revolution 9 and Wild Honey Pie winning because that’s too easy (would almost throw Mr Moonlight in that category as well)?

I’ve found that picking my favorites in the last two rounds much easier than during the earlier rounds.

I Am The Walrus – ‘FNO’ is a Paul classic but ‘IATW’ wins due to be being utter madness and insanity yet working.
In My Life – One of the hardest battles and whilst ‘AYBCS’ is an absolute joy to listen to, ‘IML’ is a little ahead in degrees of brilliance.
Strawberry Fields Forever – I don’t know if anything can beat this on my side of the divisions and ‘NW’, whilst a classic, does not mount much of a challenge.
Dear Prudence – Two ‘WA’ songs that would feature on a single disc collection but not in the top 5. The “round round” and last verse sections beat the end wailings, but going on I doubt they will continue to be enough.

I quite like “Mr Moonlight ” though. I actually think it’s mid-tier on “Beatles For Sale “.

The debates are heated as we head to the elite eight! Here is the next round
I Am The Walrus vs. For No One
And Your Bird Can Sing vs. In My Life
Strawberry Fields Forever vs. Norwegian Wood
Dear Prudence vs. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Its the first round where the full bracket will play all together I’m genuinely really excited for this one.
1) I Am The Walrus – Let’s do it, Rolling Stone ranked it only at Number 30 in their “100 Greatest Beatles Songs of All Time List”. We can change that.
2) In My Life – A much better song, in my opinion. I love “And Your Bird Can Sing ” to bits, but I can’t choose any other, however.
3) Strawberry Fields Forever – Why would you do this to me?
4) Dear Prudence – Similar situation as lovelyritametermaid. Great minds think alike, and great minds share the same pain.
Side note: I’m wondering if anyone will do a “Wrestlemania 3” poster with the final two songs on the list as Hogan and Andre. If not, I shall (poorly) do it. If I’m ambitious enough, I might do a edited Wrestlemania 3 clip with the final two duking it out.

O o f
I Am The Walrus vs. For No One : I’m going to listen to For No One seven times out of ten. Sorry walrus fans, I just personally enjoy crisp, sad piano ballads with amazing French horn solos more than psychedelic masterpieces. I generally vote entirely on personal taste and gut instinct rather than intellectual analysis, otherwise I’d be here all day arguing with myself…
*proceeds to argue with myself intellectually for next 3 songs*
(Sometimes you have to when your unhelpfully gut says “BOTH” )
And Your Bird Can Sing vs. In My Life : UGH. UGH.UGH.UGHUGHUGHUGH
Okay, I know it’s basic, but I’m going to have to go with In My Life . AYBCS has great music and entertaining lyrics; IML has great music that perfectly complements a set of the most moving lyrics ever written. That choice hurts, though.
Strawberry Fields Forever vs. Norwegian Wood : also ugh. Musically, I probably enjoy listening to Norwegian Wood more, but SFF is a piece that I can often relate to and the lyrics seem more important than NW. I guess I’m going to have to go sigh Strawberry Fields Forever . Yes, that surprised me too.
Dear Prudence vs. While My Guitar Gently Weeps : DAMMIT! There was a time when I’d certainly have chosen WMGGW, but after my recent Prudence kick I think it’s gonna have to be her. I’ve been in a particularly pastoral mood (even moreso than usual) for the last couple months, and Dear Prudence is highly suitable for playing while sitting under a tree with the wind blowing; WMGGW not quite so much. I’M SO SORRY GEORGE
Edit: hey there Rita, looks like you and me got t a s t e

For No One – gotta keep Paul in the mix, plus FNO is so serious and sad and I love listening to it. IATW is not serious or sad, yet I enjoy it less.
In My Life – Gotta respect AYBCS for taking down some big players, especially A Day In The Life , but unfortunately, this is were I must turn my back on it
SSF – While NW is a better song when stripped down, SFF has so much going on, including sitar, whereas NW is reserved and simple. I like it better that way, but sometimes you need a little bit more action
WMGGW – Once again I’m going to have to call out @Jules who is going on a one-man crusade against this song the likes of which I’ve never seen. I’m not sure what else I can say in its defense. I definitely don’t need to defend it, everybody knows how great it is. Everything you find an issue I find to be a success, and the overall product is sensational. It is the stuff of legends. The progression is perfect, the lyrics are perfect, and Clapton is absolutely wailing. Get it together man.

The early rounds felt as though your two favorites were always clashing way too early. I’m about to make clear templates for people to fill out their own so I’m curious to see the different final fours.

AHHHHHHHHHHH
I Am The Walrus –while FNO is a fantastic song, it simply isn’t on the same level as IATW. It is perhaps the best example of John’s penchant for nonsense, and yet the production makes the song feel almost deadly serious. Never has utter absurdity sounded so sublime.
And Your Bird Can Sing –okay, so while I think In My Life is an excellent song, I actually think it’s a bit overrated, and isn’t even the best song on Rubber Soul (see my notes on the next matchup for my opinions on that particular question). Anyway, while I am *still* salty about AYBCS beating ADITL, I once again have to admit, it’s a fantastic song, and one of the best on Revolver (which is of course one of the best albums). If it didn’t take out ADITL to get to this point, I’d be very happy to see it going so far.
Norwegian Wood –god damn it. If SFF is the most ambitious of John’s Beatles songs, then Norwegian Wood is perhaps his cleverest. As I’ve said before, the simple and lovely melody combined with the clever and impressionistic lyrics (let’s pretend I know what I’m talking about when using that word) make for perhaps the most vivid of Beatles songs. But I must be clear: while I absolutely adore Norwegian Wood , I will not blame anyone for picking SFF–it’s a masterpiece, pure and simple.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps –both great songs (from the same album, no less!), but I’m going to have to go with WMGGW on this one. It’s got the crunchy Eric Clapton guitars, the ambient sound, the oddly profound lyrics, the bizarre title, and to top it all off, an excellent Eric Clapton solo. I’m glad to see how far it’s gotten.
