Happiness Is A Warm Gun – More off-the-wall is good on this occassion.

Dear Prudence vs This Boy – The harmonies and John’s middle-eight win this.

Something – It’s stunning.

If I Needed Someone – Close but I’ll give it to George (special shout out to when I first saw footage of him singing this in Japan in ’66)

Baby, You’re A Rich Man – Such a good song.

Eight Days A Week – I don’t care for either song so will be awarded due to the handclaps

Paperback Writer – On its ownsome, I prefer ‘PW’. The harmonies, Paul’s vocal, the backing vocals, how the song plays out.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps – The medley is outstanding as a medley, start taking it apart and the songs start to become less. ‘CTW’ is yet another example.

Here are the results as well as the final section of round 2

Beatles-Bible-Bracket-4.jpgImage Enlarger

Happiness Is A Warm Gun vs Let It Be (Album)

Dear Prudence vs This Boy

She Said She Said vs Something

If I Needed Someone vs Revolution

Baby You’re A Rich Man vs Glas Onion

Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band vs Eight Days A Week

You Never Give Me Your Money vs Paperback Writer

Carry That Weight vs While My Guitar Gently Weeps

1) Happiness Is A Warm Gun – One of my favorite songs by the Beatles. Really showcases the band synergy really well, as well as just being a plain fun song to listen to. Listening to them shifting between time signatures and modes is really mesmerizing. I have nothing against “Let It Be “. One of their best, in my opinion.

2) Dear Prudence – Another really good song by the Beatles, which I also consider to be one of their best. Both the recording and the production aspects are really well done, and I have a penchant for songs that start slow and go fast down the road. The only annoying thing is figuring out who the drummer is, I personally think it’s Ringo, though I may be very wrong.

3) She Said She Said – When I was new to the site, I said that this is my favorite song on “Revolver “. Since “Revolver ” is my favorite Beatles album, it should come as no surprise that this is one of my favorite Beatles songs. Well I’ve just committed a mega unpopular opinion, picking this over “Something “, which is a darn good song on George’s part.

4) If I Needed Someone – Another unpopular opinion. I really like “Revolution “, I really do, but “If I Needed Someone ” is one of my favorite songs on “Rubber Soul “, so my choice is very opinionated.

5) Glass Onion – I really like this song, man. I know in many regards “Baby, You’re a Rich Man” is the better song, but I have to be honest with myself. I have a penchant for nonsense songs.

6) Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band – One of the greatest opening tracks of all time, both thematically and musically. I can’t think of any other way to start the album on another listen.

7) You Never Give Me Your Money – I think I’ve said ‘I like this song’ far to much.

8) While My Guitar Gently Weeps – This time I can safely say I’m not part of an unpopular opinion.

We do a little trolling

Here are the results as well as the final section of round 2

Happiness Is A Warm Gun vs Let It Be (Album) – Happiness Is A Warm Gun : The original album version of ‘Let It Be ‘ is my favourite version because of George’s stinging guitar solo, but still prefer ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun ‘, one of the highlights of The White Album .

Dear Prudence vs This Boy Dear Prudence : Just one of my favourite Beatles songs, though ‘This Boy ‘ is one of the early highlights.

She Said She Said vs Something She Said She Said : This was a tough one as both are brilliant songs.

If I Needed Someone vs Revolution –  Revolution : I think I overplayed ‘IINS’ over the years and it has somewhat lost its charm a bit.

Baby You’re A Rich Man vs Glass Onion : – Glass Onion : Two weakish songs, but ‘Glass Onion ‘, just!

Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band vs Eight Days A Week Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band: never really been a fan of ‘Eight Days A Week

You Never Give Me Your Money vs Paperback Writer You Never Give Me Your Money : one of the highlights of ‘Abbey Road ‘.

Carry That Weight vs While My Guitar Gently Weeps While My Guitar Gently Weeps : one of The Beatles best!

1. Let It Be – I love both, I think both are fantastic, I just dig that guitar solo in LIB so much!

2. This Boy – the harmonies, children, the harmonies!

3. Something – my favourite Lennon/McCartney song, the greatest love song of the past 101 years!

4. If I Needed Someone – don’t care too much about Revolution so this wins!

5. Baby You’re A Rich Man – not overly keen on either songs tbh

6. Eight Days A Week Sgt. Pepper ‘s is more of an introduction than a song IMO

7.You Never Give Me Your Money –  pretty

8. While My Guitar Gently Weeps – my favourite Beatle Harrisong, while I adore CTW, it falls down at this hurdle.

Lennon/McCartney? ahdn_george_06

Happiness Is A Warm Gun – I think LIB is underrated, but HIAWG is a top five song for me.

Dear Prudence – I’m going with the White Album cut, however both are sensational Lennon pieces.

She Said She Said – Ringo sends this one over the too. His drumwork is amazing in Something as well, but She Said is one of the most exciting songs in all of 60s rock

If I Needed Someone Revolution is classic, but IINS is just so good to me.

Glass Onion – This song is everything music should be, just a glimpse of how mad and genius John actually was.

Eight Days A Week – Hold Me, Love Me, love the high harmony

Paperback Writer – The boys are cooking with gas on this one

While My Guitar Gently Weeps – this one is not going away any time soon. Epic masterpiece

I believe Frank Sinatra said that (“my favourite Lennon/McCartney composition, the greatest love song ever written”) and @AppleScruffJunior was just making a joke.

Happiness Is A Warm Gun vs Let It Be (Album)

Dear Prudence vs This Boy

She Said She Said vs Something

If I Needed Someone vs Revolution

Baby You’re A Rich Man vs Glas Onion

Sgt. Pepper ‘s Lonely Hearts Club Band vs Eight Days A Week

You Never Give Me Your Money vs Paperback Writer

Carry That Weight vs While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Let It Be –sorry HIAWG, LIB is just a better song I’m afraid

This Boy –let’s see how far you can make it, little guy

Something –this decision was hard

Revolution –sorry George

Glass Onion –close, but lower stakes as I’m not in love with either song

Eight Days A Week –can’t say the lyrics on EDAW are strong, but the melody is close to perfect, so that decides it for me

Paperback Writer –if I’m sticking to the logic I’ve used so far, while YNGMYM might be a better song, I just adore Paperback Writer (hardest decision this round)

While My Guitar Gently Weeps –easy choice

When we get to the Final Round, be prepared for me to write a whole-ass essay about why I picked that song over the other– in fact, everyone should write essays about their pick once we get to the Final Round ahdn_john_08_gif

I’m expecting from each one of you an intro with a proper and defensible thesis; 3 body paragraphs for 3 claims with strong evidence, reasoning, and commentary; and a stunning conclusion that will leave everyone thinking and tie the whole argument together.a-hard-days-night-john-3
