I love Richard Cheese! I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him perform live. He just retired due to health issues.

Was listening to one of Geoff Lloyd’s podcasts on Absolute 60s, and he mentioned this attempt by Stevie Wonder to do a cover of “She Loves You ” at Outside Lands. But he had to give his band the chords, and then realized he didn’t know the words to the verses.
Coulda been a cool cover. I like his version of “We Can Work It Out .”

Joe Cocke- With A Little Help From My Friends Lacks the quality of the original. Sounds like crap.

I think it’s way better than the original.

Personally i think both are pretty ordinary songs. If forced to choose i’d go for Ringo’s based solely on its shorter running length and that little bit where Ringo’s drums become the focus.

Independent article on five bad and five good Beatles covers.
Didn’t know Bono had sung lead on a cover of ‘I Am The Walrus ‘. Sounds like a bad cover of Oasis’s cover of the same song.

I hate them both. Now I think of it, I dislike most Beatles covers.

Richard Cheese does a pretty good job of bringing everyone down to the piano lounge… he roasts a lot of crummy rock, AB/CD and just everyone, but Beatles… well whatever.
I like Yngwies hack at Magical Misery Tour, whoever did that version with him on guitenbox, it roks at least.
Of course Steve Howe did a nice version of Strawberry Fields I think, years back, with the pre-Yes band Yesterday . Yes!
But that was good, nice guitar work, not even really unconventional. Should be in the ‘good, swell and decent’ covers thread probably. Sorry.

@Wigwam, i’ve moved your post here. Not sure what “plunker’ means so you might like the above but going on PJ’s performance alone its certainly bizarre.
And is it just me or does he sing “a church can mean so much” 1:30 into the video?

I’m guessing “plunker” is a misspelt “plonker”. Seems about right having watched the video!
And obviously he doesn’t sing “church”, it’s “a judge can mean so much” as plain as the nose on your face!

Yes I didn’t notice the auto spell-check correction……..It should indeed say PLONKER.
PJ Proby was famous for his pony-tail and splitting his trousers during performances……But singing wasn’t his forte.
I’m not sure what he’s singing at 1:30……But it’s well known that he was friends with the Beatles during the time of Sgt. Pepper and actually appears unintentionally On A Day In The Life ‘……..You can hear his ‘ARRRse’ just before John starts the last verse…… Split his trousers!!…….Plonker.
