My dad heard this playing at a restaurant and played it for me; I thought it was share-worthy. In my opinion it does not fall in the ‘bad’ or ‘bizarre’ categories so much as the ‘unconventional’, although Little Girl does not agree.

Any Beatles song by the Carpenters, who I admire for their original music but not their Beatles covers (credit to Silly Girl).
Yep.
I thought I may have mentioned it here, but it seems not.

Any song by the Carpenters
A more accurate statement I have made before. Not the right thread but a band i despise is The Carpenters.

Why do you not like them?
Bland, unexciting, dull, unimaginably boring. I cannot stand Karen’s vocals either.
I cannot think of any other act I’ve ever heard that managed to take tracks such as ‘Please Mister Postman ‘, ‘Help ‘ or ‘Jambalaya’ and turn them into this gloopy pile of nothingness. Everything I have ever listened to of theirs (I had no choice but to listen to ‘Carpenters Gold’ a handful of years back) is a vacuum of anything that even resembles life and energy.
I mean what the hell did they do to turn ‘Help ‘ into the below (in the spoiler) where its a shitty whimper that is the highest insult to the Beatles cover? Its not even a pale imitation; its just… … no words can describe how much I detest it. And its one of so many.
Its difficult to describe just how much their music pisses me off because of how unremarkable it is. And its that unremarkableness that riles me so much. Its twee cack at its most and worst.
In my fathers car we were allowed to change the radio statio if we asked and he wasn’t really listening to it; he never hogged it and was very good in letting us listen to what we wanted, whilst we knew we didnt have free reign to play about with it. The only time in my entire life where I broke that unwritten rule was when The Carpenters came on with that “every shing-a-ling-a-ling” garbage. I hate them.

What do you think of her voice?
I ask this because it’s easy to dislike Carpenters work because some of it is really bland and mushy, but I’d like to know how people who don’t like them view Karen’s voice because a lot of fans tend to think it’s just divine, and even the critics can’t ignore the uniqueness of her voice.

I don’t find there is any emotion or feeling behind her delivery in anything. Its one thing to be able to keep a note but there needs to be a connection between the vocal delivery and the song and, for me, there’s nothing. Even on their biggest hits (‘Top Of The World’, ‘Close To You’) the vocal is absent from all feeling; i have no idea how it was done.
They’re a mediocre holiday camp cabaret band i’d walk out of after 30 seconds.

Her style is a lot different from the Beatles and other rock artists, so I can definitely see where you’re coming from. I can see how they could be interpreted as dull. They’re a very conservative group because of their upbringing. Completely different style from the Beatles and persona and I agree that the covers are awful because there’s only one way to present the Beatles–flamboyantly. However, I confess I like shing-a-ling-a-ling-s.

Then don’t attempt it.
Its worse than conservative; its not that they even bothered to pretend to go for a light ride in the boat, instead they just sat in the boat refusing to do anything except let others take the boat out and enjoy themselves.

Well meanmistermustard, you brought me back here to say a word about Carpenters.
Last year I started to listen to their discography; so far, I have listen their first three albums and I am going through their fourth, and, indeed there are tracks where I might find them ”Bland, unexciting, dull, unimaginably boring”, but not all of them. They are a very interesting duo, their music has some interesting musical qualities, especially the first album, which sounds different from almost everything they did afterwards. Although I will agree that their Beatles covers don’t match the quality of their other material; nevertheless I can enjoy them. That being said, Help is the one cover that sounds awfully dated even by back then (1970); when I listened it for the first time on their second album (is the 5th song) it broke the greatness this album had so far after the first four songs.
I will recommend to hear the albums rather than the singles or compilations, you can find something you will like. That’s how I started to love other groups even more when I started to listen to their albums rather than only the singles. I discovered hidden gems like ”Farmer’s Daughter”, ”Hawaii” or ”The Lonely Sea” from The Beach Boys ; ”Ride The Wild Wind”, ”Doing All Right”, ”The Fairy Feller’s Master-Stroke” or ”Stealin”’ from Queen; ”Disillusion”, ”Hasta Mañana”, ”As Good As New” or ”Gonna Sing You My Love Song” from ABBA.

I remember Kylie being interviewed before the Lennon tribute concert, @meanmistermustard, and doing the usual PR guff of how honoured she was to take part in this tribute to John, and how much of a fan she was. To illustrate how much of a fan she was, she went on to explain how The Beatles were the biggest group when she was growing up, and how excited she’d get when they were about to release a new record.
She was born in May 1968. A little young methinks to be aware of any new Beatles music apart from the Hollywood Bowl album.

Damn it, I forgot I made that…
I was annoying everyone with a kazoo and for some reason I decided to record Yellow Submarine with it to get it out of my system. (It was a long time ago, I don’t remember…)
