That Billy Preston documentary I mentioned at the top of the thread: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/e…..lanned_It/ – I helped out in a very minor way with some info and suggestions.
It's a very good documentary, though the last five minutes are pretty bleak. Apparently Keith Richards accidentally outed Billy in his recent autobiography. The radio producer asked Billy's manager about it and it's confirmed for the first time in this doc. Apparently that – and sexual abuse he suffered as a child – was a key reason why he turned to drugs in later life.
I hope the iPlayer link works outside the UK. I'm not sure of the availability.
Well it worked in Mexico, I just listened to it and it was very good. The music I heard left me wanting for more. So I'm definetly checking Billy's music!
Thanks for sharing the link! It reminded me of the times when I was a kid and I used to listen to El Servicio Latinoamericano de la BBC in my short-wave radio.

I never heard any of his solo music except of the two songs or so that were included on Come And Get It (best of apple), one of which is that’s the way god planned it, which is also on concert for bangladesh. I’m no big fan of billy’s solo songs although his beatles piano lines are amazing especially the solo of get back and the organ part after the “she’s so” in I Want You. I think it was a good idea to let him play again on Abbey Road (his something organ line is also amazing) although I don’t know which organ on I want you is played by him and which by john (although, as I said above, I think he played the little organ solo after the “she’s so”)
Once there was a way to get back homewards. Once there was a way to get back home; sleep pretty darling do not cry. And I will sing a lullaby

That’s Billy playing the fancy solo bits, yes. (I didn’t know that John played anything other than guitar and Moog on that one!)

The beatlesbible site says john also played organ on i want you
Yeah, I had to check that myself after reading your post! I can’t imagine what parts he played – maybe his contributions are buried under all those layers of guitars & Moog noise.
