Welcome @warewolf95! If you’re a Beatles scholar, you should love this place! Friendly and knowledgeable community here
Thanks to the other responders who have helped me create a Beatles “wish list”.
A question: What about Glyn Johns’ mixes?
I didn’t see the Swedish Penny Lane EP in any of the lists. I got it on my first Beatles boot, a large collection of stuff. I’m not sure if the mixes are any different (haven’t listened to them side by side with other versions), but it’s one of my favorite little tidbits. The album cover art comes up on my media player, but for the life of me I can’t find the actual gif anywhere in my Beatles folder. The picture in windows media player is small, but it has George (face hard to make out but he has a round hat on), Ringo, Paul (when he had moustache only and the ends went straight down off the ends of his mouth towards his chin). Anyways it has Penny Lane , And Your Bird Can Sing , Strawberry Fields Forever , and I’m Only Sleeping . Tremendous song lineup! It looks like the publisher (Capitol?) and year are in the upper right corner but I can’t read them. I can’t save the pic from windows media player either

The 2009 remasters are thought by most to be the best out there for the official albums (unless you’re an audiophile who examines the wavelengths and can hear hiss at 44,000khz or whatever it is, all that mystifies me and causes my brain to go to sleep) so basically its go official for those (imo).
Purple Chick’s collections brought together almost everything out that at the time (tho they have faults) so they’re excellent for folk starting their collections – tho upgrades and a handful of new tracks have since came out. Truth be told however you can probably (i haven’t looked into it to be sure) ignore their deluxe editions of ‘Please Please Me ‘ thru to ‘Rubber Soul ‘, instead hunting down the ‘Back To Basics’ volumes on the Helter Skelter label, which are more up to date and ignores the official releases, as well as the Germany Star Club 1962 release. The best BBC collection is far more complicated.
However no matter what you get you’ll still be scrambling around trying to find bits and pieces which aren’t on major boots (eg Paul’s 1964 ‘World Without Love’ demo – its on youtube), better source tapes (‘Bare It All’ for the John Barrett material is generally thought to be the ‘go to’ now) and even more recent albums since updated technology improves the quality of material, so what was once ‘very good’ is now becoming ‘excellent’.
Its all subjective however, one man’s Norwegian Wood take 1 in A- rated quality is another’s Norwegian Wood take 1 rated B+ and vice-versa. It all depends on whether you are happy just having take 1 of ‘Norwegian Wood ‘ or if it must be the best sonically available. If the latter you’ll go mad and end up having 58,000 albums to plough thru. Some folk just don’t care. Me – i love it.

‘This Bird Has Flown’ (Take 2), a very interesting Take for it showcases a different intro and a most curious drum track from Ringo, I don’t know what he’s hitting the snare drum with but it sure doesn’t sound like a drumstick! Somewhat reminiscent (or, a “precursor” more precisely) of Phil Spector’s unique snare sound achieved for John’s ‘Instant Karma ‘ single that appeared nearly a half a decade later:I especially like the harmonies during the last line of the song, this has to be a frontrunner for ‘Best remaining unreleased Beatles performances’, in my opinion…:-)
How very interesting! Although I think the harmony referred to only lasts half the last line…it is nice. The intermingling of acoustic guitar and sitar in the intro is most intriguing, and Ringo is totally out there…for some reason that drum track reminds me of the early scene in 2001: A Space Odyssey where (presumably) the first ape to embark on the journey to humanity throws the bone up in the air. Something primitive about it I guess.
Speaking of caveman movies, if you haven’t checked out 1981’s Caveman (starring our beloved Ringo) it’s worth a look, for a laugh. Ringo has a lot of the straight lines and is quite the comedian, showing the on-screen talent that made its first appearance in AHDN and blossomed in Help !
EDIT: found link that purports to be entire movie, if not there is an 11-part playlist that makes the same claim

I’ll assume some of you have heard about the Dr. Ebbetts (DESS) Needle drop recordings, since Beatle audiophiles didn’t like the 1987 Beatles CD releases.

Yes. Some folk claim they are better than the 2009 remasters, others, including Dr Ebbet himself, said the 2009 remasters were better. Its all down to personal preference.

Totally agree with you. I’ve got 1 Dr. Ebbett CD, and you cannot beat the 2009 remasters as they used the original tapes to remix, not LP’s, that have limitations.
The only thing nice about my Dr. Ebbett CD is, it’s the only Canadian Beatles CD that is released on CD.

Came across this interesting list of highly sought out unreleased Beatles’ recordings:
http://beatlesite.blogspot.ca/…..atles.html
I’m not certain if it’s 100% accurate, it appears that some of them are based on “rumoured to exist” over solid factual accounts, but intriguing to ponder nonetheless. If the ‘In My Life ‘ recording that John spoke of does indeed exist, it’d be most fascinating to hear for the song likely developed from something completely different than what we’ve come to know on the ‘Rubber Soul ‘ album. The original lyric sheets showed different lyrics while Ringo’s inventive drumming probably significantly altered the feel from any early John Lennon demo.
The ‘Etcetera’ outtake from the ‘White Album ‘ would be interesting to hear as well for I’m always very keen on hearing unreleased material from my favourite album of all-time. I also recommend this other thread https://www.beatlesbible.com/f…..ngs-etc/ which goes into a similar direction as this one and contains some nice lost gems posted by members of this community…:-)

There is the final remaining unreleased version of Norwegian Wood , of course, and the full-length version of It’s All Too Much .
I have a soft spot for the early version of Let It Be with the “Record Mirror” lyric – it’s complete, and has a kind of chugging rhythm to it.

Let’s keep this Bootleg thread going. Anything new members want to add???
I know this may seen a bit late but i’ll give it a try. As for me, some of the best unreleased material includes:
– The 1960 Home Recordings (Even though the quality is pretty bad, I still find it very interesting)
– Early concerts such as some of The Star Club and The Cavern
– Please Please Me Outtakes (outtakes from I Saw Her Standing There , There’s A Place & Misery )
– Don’t Bother Me (Take 10) (Great version!)
– Medley Of Hits! from the Around The Beatles broadcast
– It’s For You (Paul’s Demo) (Wish it could be heard in it’s entirety)
– I’m A Loser (Take 2)
– What You’re Doing (Take 11)
– She’s A Woman (Take 2 & 5)
– Yes It Is (Take 1)
– Norwegian Wood (Take 2)
– We Can Work It Out (Take 2)
– Eleanor Rigby (Paul’s Demo) (Same as It’s For You)
– She Said She Said (John’s Demos) (Very quirky & funny demos!)
– It’s All Too Much (Complete Version)
– Your Mother Should Know (Take 8)
– Hello Goodbye (Take 1) (IMO, much better than the one on Anthology 2 )
– Hey Bulldog (Various outtakes) (as of now, there are only snippets from the session)
– The Esher/Kinfauns demos
– Revolution (Take 20)
– Not Guilty (Unedited)
– Oh! Darling (Take 26)
– You Never Give Me Your Money (Take 30)
– Golden Slumbers /Carry That Weight (Take 13)
– Something (Take 37)
