^ Yeah, that’s a good idea. I was thinking about asking that myself actually – you saved me the job.

The other day, I was at Whole Foods, and If I Fell came on. I was really surprised, because I didn’t expect a place like Whole Foods to play Beatles music, especially not-very-well-known Beatles music.

Also, when I was little, there were some kids’ songs that I liked to listen to, so today, for no apparent reason, I decided to look the songs up on iTunes. One of them that I didn’t remember was called Golden Slumbers . I listened to the preview, and the words are something like this:

Golden Slumbers kiss your eyes, smiles awake you when you rise, sleep pretty loved ones, don’t you cry, and I will sing a lullaby.”

Was The Beatles’ Golden Slumbers based on this?

Paul wrote Golden Slumbers after seeing the words of a poem called “Cradle Song” by Thomas Dekker and not being able to read music put them to his own.

The original poem is:

Golden Slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise ;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you,
You are care, and care must keep you ;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

My seven year old cousin slept over last weekend, and we were playing Beatles Rock Band, and her favorite songs were Yellow Submarine , I Want To Hold Your Hand , and Octopus Garden. We were up until like four in the morning because we were trying to play every song on Beatles Rock Band (it was her idea, she was the one who wanted to) but we got too tired. Then she was on google images looking at pictures of The Beatles, and she thinks Ringo’s really cute, he’s her favorite. She knows all their names and can point them all out in pictures now. And I wasn’t even trying.a-hard-days-night-john-1

I live in Canada (Near Niagara Falls) and there are Niagara River Rapids Jet Boat Tours. That’s what I did today, and you ride on a bus to and from the boat deck, and my bus driver today sang “And I Love Her ” into the microphone, and some lady a few rows behind me was singing along.

You should hear my voice (or not!)… but if it’s The Beatles I’m croaking along!

I was listening to the radio with half an ear and there was this commercial on from some energy company and it was about smart investments and I only heard: ”blablabla 4 regular lads from Liverpool blalblabla manager and went on to become one of the best selling bands ever! That’s a smart investment!” and then it went on about how the company is so good at those things too.

My dad has met someone who owns John’s Mini Cooper. Yes, that’s right. He’s a Liverpool guy who just likes buying old cars and doing them up, then re-selling them. He had no idea who it once belonged to. Says it was just in someone’s garage, and he bought it really cheap because it had been battered a bit in an accident (which may have been kept quiet because John caused it, and was drunk and/or high at the time – just me speculating, though). Julian Lennon has been in frequent contact, he wants to buy it off him. Can’t believe I couldn’t meet this guy, and see this car!

I believe this is it.

The other day, I was driving and listening to LOVE, and the second Julia came on, I passed a cemetery. I thought it was kinda creepy.

In the movie Red II, Bruce Willis sings the beginning of the chorus of “She Loves You “. Oh, and, um, yeah, the rest of the movie is good too.

I know :( In a way, I wish they’d never told me at all. Then I wouldn’t feel like I’ve really missed out paul-mccartney

After I posted this in the Paul McCartney section, Zig told me about this thread so I will put my stories here. I love this thread.

1. Two months and two days after becoming a fan of Paul’s (my “Paul birth-date” is May 26, 2013), I was trying to pull the garden hose out from under the tire of my car. Just as I got into the tug-of-war stance, Paul’s voice began singing the chorus of “Tug Of War ” through my headphones of my mp3 player. I had never heard the song before. I had just loaded all my newly-bought Beatles, Wings, and McCartney solo career cds onto my mp3 player and was listening to all the songs played in alphabetical order. What a wonderful moment it was to have that particular song play at that particular moment! I just stood there stunned and happy for a moment. Yes, I did go on to free the garden hose.

2. Two days before that happy coincidence, during a state committee meeting, I told my fellow Oklahoma librarians about my new-found appreciation of Paul McCartney and his music. After the meeting we all went out to lunch. As soon as we sat down, “Band On The Run ” was the song that stared playing on the restaurant’s music system. All heads snapped my way.

Funny Paper added this bit of information on the PM posting : “You may have had another coincidence too:  The song alphabetically right before “Tug Of War ” would be “Tuesday” (one of Paul’s classical pieces) — and you wrote that this occurred “Two months and two days after becoming a fan of Paul’s (my “Paul birth-date” is May 26, 2013)” — which would be a Tuesday!” I checked my mp3 player, and I did have Tuesday on there. So cool.

So I was in a rather angry mood so I decided to wind down by blasting some “angry” music (Helter  Skelter, punk, Smashing Pumpkins and thigns like that). So I started playing “Bullet With Butterfly Wings” by The Smashing Pumpkins. At the chorus I started singing along (“Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage, despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage, then someone will say what is lost can never be saved, despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage”) and then all of a sudden the chorus of While My Guitar Gently Weeps floated in my head….it seemed strange, in the midst of me belting out this anger song to have a moment of George’s peaceful wisdom enter…

"White Album - My joint-fave Beatles album along with Revolver. They show the two sides of Beatles. Revolver's very controlled - even though it's also very innovative. The White Album's playful and almost ramshackle. It's like a scrapbook kept by a genius. Fantastic stuff."
