I’m not at all a sports fan but, with the Winter Olympics all over the news at the moment, whenever there’s a mention of curling I can’t restrain myself from calling out, “It’s a thingie! A fiendish thingie!”

Doubtful, @Mr. Moonlight, as the letter refers to a picture published by the paper on 7 February – which was the date The Beatles landed in New York City for the first time in 1964; whereas the “bigger than Jesus” furore resulted from an interview with John published in London in March 1966, and republished by Datebook in the US that July, making it hard to fit a 7 February date to that controversy.
You have to remember just how controversial the Beatles “long” hair was to many in a country who were still sporting crew cuts, coupled with a belief that American entertainers were the best in the world and a pop group from Britain wasn’t needed.

We’re going to Hamburg soon and I’ll check some of the clubs the Fab played in during their time. Also will check the “The Beatles Platz” where they did put statues of the 4some.
Can’t wait! was in HH several times but never had the time or opportunity to check it all out!
That’s amazing! When will you be going? I hope you have a great time there.
Hey @Rube Sorry for my delayed response. I was so busy the past weeks.

YEAH YEAH YEAH I was in Hamburg yesterday and visited the Reeperbahn and Große Freiheit to discover the Fab Four History in Germany.
I was so amazing beeing there though I honestly didnt like the Reeperbahn. Too dirty and too cheap sex shops…it all looked old, used and dirty. Iam no prude at all but this just to cheap for me.
No matter, we’re here talking Beatles. So Iam going to show off the Beatles Platz (Beatles Place) at the end of the Reeperbahn first where it goes into the Große Freiheit (Great Freedom).
All over the Place there are Song titles written into the groung: I think almost all the songs are listed there!
The Kaiserkeller/Große Freiheit 36:
The Sign says: “On one day of the year 1960 5 young musicians from Liverpool climbed the small and wobbling stage here, the Kaiserkeller at the Große Freiheit. They were the soon to be world famous grown Pete Best, George Harrison , John Lennon , Paul McCartney and Stuart Sutcliffe. Sutcliffe died in 1962 and in the same year Ringo Starr took the Place of Pete Best. From the stations Top-Ten and Starclub the Beatles made and uncompareable carrer. The Sign was revealed on Febuary 23rd 1990 for the 30th anniversary of the first concert of the group.”
The Star Club (Große Freiheit 39):
The Indra (Große Freiheit 63):
The Sign says: “On August 17th 1960 The Beatles took the stage of the Indra. It was there first Germany job and the start of a big carrer.”
Beatles Platz Sign at the Beatles Platz and the whole Platz Overview:
The sign says: “Beatles Platz. Here on St. Pauli the musical carrer of the Beatles started.Bert Kampfert and the Hamburg music producer and lawyer Alfred K. Schacht discovered 1961 at the Top Ten Club these musicians: John Lennon , Paul McCartney . George Harrison , Pete Best and Tony Sheridan. They took them under contract and so the Beatles made their first records on June 22nd and 23rd 1961: My Bonny, The Saints, Why, Cry for a Shadow, Ain’t She Sweet …”
Former Top Ten Club (Reeperbahn 136):
Hope you liked the Pics!

We’re watching “Let the Music Play – the Hit Quiz” a german show where people get to guess songs by listening to them or a text of hints. The songs are performed by a live band.
We found the show when we were in the Hotel in Hamburg late at night and now we’re watching the show on stream.
They had 2 Beatles songs in the last 2 shows we were watching. Can you guess the songs:
1.) colorfull nautical childrens song
2.) mop tops sing from the past.

I went on a Beatles walking tour with a group guided by Richard Porter in London today. We met up outside of Marylebone Railway Station where the opening scenes of A Hard Day’s Night were filmed in April 1964.
This is Boston Place where The Beatles are first seen chasing from their fans in the film. This is where George falls over, but it was not originally planned. The director thought it looked good and kept it in.
Next, we stopped at the Westminster (Former Marylebone) Registry Office where Paul got married to Linda on 12th March 1969 and Ringo tying the knot with Barbara on 27th April 1981. This is also where Paul married Nancy on what would have been John’s 71st birthday in 2011.
This is 34 Montagu Square where Ringo first lived in 1965 and where John moved in 1968 with Yoko.
The former Apple shop, which is now Marsh & Parsons Estate Agent in Baker Street.
This is 57 Wimpole Street where the Asher family lived. John and Paul would write songs in Margaret Asher’s room in the basement, including I Want To Hold Your Hand . It is also the place where Paul came up with Yesterday .
This is where Paul would escape from the house.
This was the restaurant that was featured in Help !. Now, it’s Daylesford Organic.
The Jubilee Underground line where Paul filmed the Press music video on 16th July 1986. We went on the tube to St John’s Wood.
The iconic Abbey Road Studios.
After the tour was over, I visited The Beatles Coffee Shop in St John’s Wood Underground Station. It’s small, but a lovely place. I bought an Abbey Road pen and a Yellow Submarine reusable water bottle.
I took this photo at Marylebone Station while I was on my way back.
Overall, the trip was amazing. Walking on the Abbey Road crossing for the first time was sensational. If any of you are in London, I would recommend this tour.
