The other day, my friend started talking to me about some video they watched about famous people who “predicted their death.” I knew exactly where this was going, and told them to shut up. Unfortunatly, they didn’t, and and I had to listen to them go on and on and on about this John quote that I had already seen numerous times, and about how “it’s so cool he can predict the future.” I just walked away because I couldn’t deal with them anymore. I’m terrible at choosing friends.

I see John’s death being turned into a joke all the time on the internet. It’s horrible.
I’m willing to joke about just about anything, but with something like that it has to be done with appreciation for the gravity of the thing being joked about. Humour is a coping mechanism, after all.

Last week in my humanities class, my teacher was talking about Judas and he said how nobody names their kids that. I said as a joke that people instead shorten it to Jude, and he made a joke about Paul McCartney writing Hey Jude about the devil.
Then he turned to me and said “but you probably don’t know who Paul McCartney is”.
Never in my life have I felt so offended and confused as I did in that moment. There were so many things I had to say, but at the same time, I was at a loss. My first instinct was to yell at him about how much I know about Paul McCartney , but I had to calm myself down because I wasn’t about to out myself like that. So I just said “yes I do” and spent the rest of the class getting sucked deeper and deeper into the existential vacuum wondering how something so separate from me can be so deeply ingrained into my being that I consider it a part of who I am as a person.

He was either being really patronising or he really is out of the loop. Paul’s staying pretty well-known these days, just having dropped an album and his Carpool Karaoke was trending on YouTube; he’s ‘kept himself relevant’ as they say.

John said he would prefer to fade away gracefully than burn out. John and Paul could’ve retired after the Beatles and still been legends. They have nothing to prove. So I don’t think Paul would feel like he has to ‘stay relevant’. He’s been playing that game for decades now. But I don’t think it hurts reminding people you’re a legend every Now And Then .

I meant mainly ‘staying relevant’ as in he’s kept himself in the public eye, in present tense, rather than for something he did decades ago. He’s continued to create, in other words, and it’s helpful for letting the younger generations know he exists.

Ugh. Nothing worse than when older people both a) hate young people for not listening to the classics and b) act snobbily like this so as to discourage younger people from trying it. I know for a fact that I’d have been much less inclined to start listening to the Beatles if I’d had fans patronising me like that. Thankfully, I had the Forumpudlians to guide me in that respect
Next time you’re in that class just wear a Beatles shirt or something.

Haha, one of the first thoughts that ran through my head was literally “what shirt am I wearing today?” and then “how am I not wearing a Beatles shirt?”. Nine times out of ten, I’m wearing a Beatles or Paul shirt at school, so it was pretty bad luck that I wasn’t on that particular day.

Saw someone wearing a pullover with the sentence “Happiness is a warm puppy”.
That’s actually a reference to Peanuts…
But no one needs to know that!

Actually, I’d say that is very likely.
