I’m was watching the Brownlow medal count last night (best player for Australian Rules Football) and saw one of the girlfriends of a player. I said “there’s Polythene Pam .” To which someone said “huh?” And I countered with “she’s so good looking but she looks like a man.” Cruel…but funny. john-lennon-salute_gif

I flatter myself I’m a bit of a Polythene Pam so I would take it as a compliment, but that’s just my gender-bending-biased perspective ahdn_george_06

Walking home from work today a busker was singing Stand By Me . As I went past I muttered “John sang it better.” Don’t know if he heard or not. a-hard-days-night-john-6

So I haven’t been here in a whiiile… BUT I’ve somehow ended up in New Zealand and bungy jumped and it was awesome. What makes it more awesome? Them playing the Beatles at the reception! It was very calming I must sayjohn-lennon-salute_gif

Last night I went to an art exhibit where my wizard-friend had a couple pieces on display. This particular gallery is also a club/studio/musical place with instruments lying about free for the playing, and there was a patron who had sat down and started playing piano, and so I walked over and picked up the guitar that was nearby and jammed along a bit. When we finished whatever song that was, I — naturally, doing my Beatley duty, asked him if he knew any Beatles. ‘Yeah, I know lots,’ he said, and commenced playing ‘Maybe I’m Amazed ‘ (paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif) (although I admit, I hadn’t thought of that one in a while, so it was a good reminder), and when I pointed out that that was Paul McCartney technically, he switched over to ‘Here, There, and Everywhere’ instead, which I of course EMINENTLY approved of. paul-mccartney-thumb_gif

It was lovely! a-hard-days-night-george-9

A student worker from the IT department came over to up date Java on my work computer. He looked around my office and said, “I take it you’re a big Beatles fan.” a-hard-days-night-george-10

He mentioned that he watched Paul on Carpool Karaoke AND he knew about Egypt Station. He said that it was a cool name for an album. Of course I pulled up the Beatles Bible on my phone and showed him. He thought that was pretty cool.

I was at a party at a college sorority (not the place where you’d expect to hear Beatles music playing) but then, the playlist went to “Twist And Shout “. And as soon as the song played, everyone was singing and dancing along to it. And when the increasing harmony part happened, everyone was screaming it at the top of their lungs. It was a blast.

We passed the sign for Standing Stone State Park. If we weren’t already listening to Paul (Egypt Station), I would have put on his Standing Stone album.

So I was with my dad, doing the shopping, and we went to the bottle store to get some gin…

And Another Girl was playing…

which was followed by I’ve Just Seen A Face , Tell Me What You See , Ticket To Ride , and Dizzy Miss Lizzy !beatlemaniacs_02_gifbeatlemaniacs_02_gifbeatlemaniacs_02_gifbeatlemaniacs_02_gif

We had a good long chat with the owner about the Beatles – his favourite album is Rubber Soul , though he said ‘it’s been a while since I’ve heard Help !, so I put it on’.

Good sales tactic to make my dad buy more booze!a-hard-days-night-paul-5

Just finished watching an episode of Cold Case I recorded a few weeks back. Much to my surprise the story involved a psychiatric patient who found peace in John’s music. He was suspected of having murdered his doctor years before (the real killer having used his illness to make him look guilty). Lots of Lennon music in the episode – Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)Imagine Mind Games  (which was used as the episode title), Scared#9 DreamInstant Karma  and Watching The Wheels

Just finished watching something about Primal Scream releasing Tom Dowd’s original mixes for the 1994’s Give Out But Don’t Give Up, heavily remixed and overdubbed before it’s original release. In the obligatory bit in these things about how the band formed and their journey to this album, there were the obligatory photos of teenage band members in teenage bedrooms, and not sure which member, but there was one shot of one of them, sat on their teenage bed with, rather aptly, the four photo inserts from the White on the wall behind them.

That’s beautiful, I have never heard AS anywhere in public and if I ever do, I think I would die of happiness.

I was walking past some guy selling posters a few weeks ago and one of them was the poster every Beatles’ fan has (or should have).

Fun fact: I have this image on a poster, a t-shirt, and my German card wallet. I plan on wearing the t-shirt to Paul’s gig in Vienna.

For my Jazz Transcription project transcribed and performed this Glenn Campbell solo.

Another student transcribed the horn section of Martha My Dear on his baritone sax. I left the room to tune my guitar because I didn’t want to hear a second of the White Album until I get back to Atlanta and hear it with my friend on the 50th. When I came back in my teacher said it was easily one of the most impressive pop songs he’d ever encountered.

I don’t have this poster but I want it very badly. My brother has a poster advertising the Beatles at the London Palladium in 1963, but he refuses to let me put it up in my room no matter how much I beg (or offer a bribe) paul-mccartney

Also, a few months ago I walked into a grocery store just in time to catch the last few bars of If I Fell . The store then proceeded to play a selection of insipid pop music. I was so frustrated paul-mccartney-facepalm_gif
