Today has been a day of remembrance for the 22 victims of the Manchester Arena bombing a year ago today. Much of it has been very moving.
BBC Breakfast this morning closed with a choir made up of survivors of the attack singing Here Comes The Sun . Extremely poignant watching those who had got through such a horrendous attack, many of them quite young, sing the line, “The smiles returning to their faces”. While this evening many choirs (including the aforementioned choir) put on a concert in Manchester’s Albert Square. For the last few songs all the choirs combined to create a 2800 member choir, with the audience of thousands singing along loudly, proudly, and defiantly. The last song performed was a massive screw-you to those who believe terror can win, as huge choir and audience belted out All You Need Is Love .
The words of four lads from their Northern rival city helping in the healing of a city so badly scarred by the events of a year ago.

Nothing quite as moving as that, but I heard ‘Helter Skelter ‘ on the radio in a restaurant in Gatlinburg, Tennessee over the weekend. Kind of an unusual song to hear on the radio, though it fit the ski lodge/grill vibe of the restaurant. Also saw some Beatley posters and t-shirts in various shops.

As we walked up to the window at the Velvet Cream to order, Yellow Submarine started playing.

Today, a student in my music sound production class came up to me (without knowing I’m a Beatlemaniac) and said ‘always a good moment when I have Beatles stuck in my head’.
After a short discussion, where I said I thoroughly agree, she revealed she had Golden Slumbers in her head.

I’m sitting outside and I just heard ‘Something ‘ floating along the summer breeze.
Edit: Oops, I think it was just my dad so maybe that doesn’t count? Anyway, it was nice.
Second edit: Confirmed it was a neighbour, not my dad, who’s playing the whole Abbey Road album.

In a more upmarket restaurant for my dinner and all of Beatles songs available they are playing ‘Don’t Pass Me By ‘!
Sadly ‘Why Don’t We Do It In The Road’ didn’t follow.

I just came back from my school’s annual music camp, and the guitar ensemble learned (and performed) Day Tripper during the camp
It was instrumental, but I added my own vocals…

How could anyone leave? Tho a request for them to return to ‘Come Together ‘ should be met with approval, even if you need to order an extra portion of fries.
If I’m in a store and they are playing multiple Beatles songs I have to plan my exit between songs others I’d never go. Once ran out of HMV after ‘From Me To You ‘ as I’d spent about 15 minutes hanging about solely to listen to Beatles tracks. lt was like I’d been captured by very nice people who had then subjected me to 5 star luxury treatment, met all my wishes, and then said you’re free to go if you wish but feel free to hang about for the bacon rolls.

I got my dad tickets to see Kofi Baker’s Cream Experience for his birthday/Father’s Day. The band played I Want You (She’s So Heavy) after Pressed Rat and Warthog. It starts at about 4:50 in the below video.

This happened to Zag today. She recently accepted an amazing job offer from a competitor. Today was the last day at her old job and she was feeling melancholy about saying goodbye to one of her treasured co-workers. Naturally, any life change can be a little overwhelming – especially considering she had been with the same company for 15 years. You start asking yourself, “am I doing the right thing?”. Anxiety was starting to creep in and during the drive to the office, just as she was tearing up a little, a song came on the radio.
She told me she took it as a sign. I said, “congrats…you had a “Beatley Moment”.

Heard them playing it again today. I took the opportunity to climb up my favourite tree, which happens to be nearby that particular neighbour, and sat there slightly singing along with the neighbour who was also slightly singing along.
If you ever get the opportunity, listen to Abbey Road whilst sitting in a tree as it floats along the summer breeze from a neighbour’s. I guarantee it is an extra-excellent listening experience.

Walking home today, my eyes were drawn to a small framed picture of The Beatles on someone’s wall (their curtains were open). The picture was this one from (I think) their photo session from 1963 with Angus McBean:
And somebody a few houses along from there with their curtains open too had a huge framed picture of the inner gatefold from The Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet album on their wall, which I also thought was cool. I instantly recognised it by seeing Brian Jones, of course.
I really am a nosey parker!
