Am watching the great Only Connect.

A group in the Connecting Wall (16 mixed words or phrases which form 4 groups of four), which I spotted straight off –

Prison – Icarus – Paul McCartney – Butterfly,

I started watching that but for the life of me I cannot recall seeing the end – will have to go back.

A few days ago, my friend and I were texting, and it was her birthday. She made a reference to the song Birthday , and I, of course, caught on to it ahdn_ringo_09

I was walking around Costco and in their media section (magazines, movies, books, etc…) I saw a magazine about the Beatles.

I thought to myself,  “Eve, you don’t need that, you’ve already read Tune In and Revolution in the Head, you know enough about them.”

My inner self kept saying, “but it has lots of beautiful pictures and look at all of the interesting things in it!”

After seeing the price though….

This past weekend I saw Tedeschi Trucks Band (along with North Mississippi Allstars and Los Lobos and a surprise guest appearance by Gregg Allman — an outstanding evening of music even though we spent 5 hours standing outside and the temperature was still 90F when we left at 11 pm…but I digress).

So TTB did a great cover of Something , a very true-to-the-original rendition, Derek Trucks nailed George’s guitar sound.  It was a goosebump kind of performance, and when the audience all sang along to the “I don’t know, I DON’T KNOW” parts, well, you know, everyone’s a Beatles fan, right?  But here’s the kicker — another George song followed, and one that I never, ever expected to hear in concert:  Within You Without You.  What??  Slide guitar and flute and Susan Tedeschi singing her heart out and just making us believe that “With our love, we could save the world,” which is where the song ended…

Heard this line this morning on an episode of Married…with Children.

Al Bundy – “Just me cruising around, listening to the Oldies station at 1500 Watts. … Luckily the cop liked oldies, so he beat me with his nightstick to the tune of ‘Hey Jude ‘.”

Imagine ‘ playing in an episode of Taggart; a radio station playing it after dedicating the song to those who are scared, downtrodden, lost, lonely etc.

And whilst its playing someone gets handcuffed to their wheelchair and pushed into a swimming pool to drown. Brilliant!!

A few days ago I was watching a picker show (basically they go to people’s houses, garages, etc. and buy old stuff), and they found Beatles bobble heads. When the owner of them was taking them out of the display case, he recited the entire intro-y type-bit from Live At The BBC , which goes something like this (my memory is a little bit rusty; I can’t remember if the ‘and’ in John’s bit is actually a ‘but’ or nota-hard-days-night-george-10):

Ringo: “I’m Ringo, and I play the drums.”

Paul: “I’m Paul, and I play the, uh, bass.”

George: “I’m George, and I play the guitar.”

John: “I’m John, and I too play the guitar, and sometimes I play the fool.”

John’s Stand By Me came on while I was in the CVS pharmacy on Peachtree Street about an hour ago. I hope no one watched me lip syncing the song to the Bandaids.

I went to collect my new John Lennon -style granny glasses today, and as I was walking to the shopping centre, the glockenspiel began to play Yellow Submarine . I thought that was quite appropriate, especially considering the fact that I was carrying my YS shoulder bag at the time…

The optician thought the granny glasses looked really good on me, by the way.

I walked through that CVS to get back to the hotel just now. This time I got Ringo’s You’re Sixteen. Makes me want to go hang out there instead of going to this banquet.

Today I drove down Harrison Avenue to eat at Rich(e)y’s Grill. Then I passed Maxwell’s Supplies (a store) on the way to the airport to pick up Ahhh Mom. I hit a triple. Too bad I didn’t get a Lennon for a homerun.

1. Where is this Harrison Avenue? I know of one here in NC. 2. I’m pretty sure Ringo spells it ‘Richy’. 3. Did Maxwell’s Supplies sell hammers by any chance? a-hard-days-night-george-10

Harrison Avenue in Oklahoma City.
That’s why I put the (e) in parentheses. I thought it was close enough.
I guess I’ll have to stop in Maxwell’s one of these days.

A few weeks ago I went to the Secoyas National Park with my family and in one of the gift shops, Ringo’s “It Don’t Come Easy” started playing!

There were also these signs that told you not to step on the plants and they said “Give Plants a Chance”

This reminded me of a restaurant in Worcester, MA — Maxwell Silverman’s Tool House Restaurant.  I think it’s still open, was a machine shop prior to being made into an eatery.  Did they make hammers?  No clue!  Is the name a coincidence or a Beatles reference?  No clue!  (I’m pretty sure it was a Beatles reference.)
