I say everyone forums to little! I only wake up to 11 – 5 posts during the night.

Well, I can only do so much single-handedly. And it’s been a slow weekend.

Back on topic a-hard-days-night-paul-5

I saw two Beatles T-shirt wearers today, but I didn’t have the bravery to go up to them for fear they might say ‘oh, I’m not a fan, I just liked the shirt.’

Cause I couldn’t stand the pain, and I would be sad if my bravery was in vain… a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

Also saw, in the end credits of Clifford the Big Red Dog cartoon, someone named Cynthia Harrison. ahdn_george_06

Here’s an earlier this year Beatley moment that I forgot to mention after I could mention it, but it came to mind today.

It was @Ahhh Girl’s birthday during her visit to the UK earlier this year, as some of you may remember, and I was travelling with her.

I had been finding little bits and pieces for her birthday along the way, but hadn’t found anything Beatle-ish to add to her swag bag of presents I’d been amassing when she wasn’t looking.

The weekend leading to her birthday on the Monday was spent in Cardiff, AG staying with Joe while I stayed at a central Cardiff hotel, ready to roll into Liverpool on the Monday of her birthday.

So there I was in Cardiff, couple more presents for the swag bag, but Cardiff isn’t really the place to find things Beatle-ish for a present for somebody who has to something Beatle-ish for her birthday. Not anything they couldn’t get anywhere anyway, and I wanted something special, not easy to find.

Now, I’m a smoker (don’t recommend it, not a good idea, etc.). Obviously, can’t smoke in hotels nowadays, so trotting out in the early hours for a puff, I find myself sitting on the entrance steps of the hotel, looking across at an Oxfam. Me, I’m pretty blind, but I can make out an A4-ish size book with a white cover featuring four colour photos. “Are those who I think?” I wonder, wandering across the street.

Who’d have thunk it! An interesting out-of-print Beatles book in hardback! Giuliano’s biographies aren’t great, but there was nothing wrong with his coffee table showing examples of Beatles memorabilia (mainly from his own collection). And when I looked at it in the morning, if I remember rightly, it was a first edition. It was certainly early.

I had the Beatle-ish part of AG’s birthday present.

The below makes the album better. Can’t beat a Beatles reference.

Aw, @Ron Nasty, what a heart-warming walk down memory lane. Your story is so well-written.

Thank you for all wonderful birthday presents, the most important one being the use of YOU – your time and knowledge. I enjoyed your company and your patience with me.

The other day, my dad was playing Christmas music by classic rockstars (or parodies, at the least). When I was trying to sleep, my dad started playing Christmas Time Is Here Again . I immediately started singing along in my bed. Unfortunately, my dad turned it off halfway through the song 🙁

No mince pie for him this Christmas turning off The Beatles mid-song.

Almost ended up singing She Loves You during play rehearsal’s today. Only because for vocal warm ups, we kept saying “yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah”

Now “yeah” doesn’t even sound like a word to be anymore, so… yeah a-hard-days-night-john-6

@natureaker You should have broken out into song anyway! That’s what I do, even if no one else knows it. (Musical people are just so accepting.)

Thanks for sharing this story @Ron Nasty. From reading this and all the other stories it sounds like a fab holiday. Question, isn’t Cardiff close to Stonehenge?  I’ve wondered if the site loses it’s mystery if you drive by it on a regular basis.

It is, @sigh butterfly. Stonehenge was a stopping point on my and @Ahhh Girl’s trip to Cardiff. We stayed in Salisbury to see the Cathedral (and it’s Magna Carta) along with a visit to Stonehenge that included Circle access (you can only walk around it on normal visits). The following day was Bath to buy Joe a bun (oh, and see the Roman baths there). Then it was onto Cardiff.

As to how much the roads intrude on Stonehenge, that’s improving a lot. Originally Stonehenge was between two roads, one that passed incredibly close:

StonehengeAir.jpgImage Enlarger

That close road was closed and grassed over a few years ago, starting to return the site to a much more natural environment:

stonehenge-visitor-center-49.jpgImage Enlarger

The remaining road, while noticeable, is not too obtrusive. There are now plans to sink the remaining road into a tunnel, restoring the site to its natural environment completely. In time there will be no roads too close to Stonehenge.

This was my first time there since they closed the closest road, and it was like the first time I’d ever seen it. That road (which you can still the scar of above) was really intrusive. It was such a delight to see it gone.

And, yes, it definitely was a fab holiday, and I was so happy AG allowed me to tag along. I’ll admit I almost shed a tear when we said goodbye at Lime Street Station. The best fortnight I’ve had in many years.
