I recently had a Beatley moment at my jazz band concert. One other band was there, and our band stayed to watch. They played Come Together , and the band director was explaining the song, then he asked a trivia question that he figured would stump the audience. He asked, “What Beatles album is Come Together on?” I immediately yell “Abbey Road !” Considering I was a fraction of the band director’s age, he was seriously impressed. It was an easy question though.

You should have said One, Love or the Blue Album and got a debate going.

Prepping for Mad Men tonight, I’m watching Forrest Gump on AMC (same channel that plays Mad Men) even though I own it on blu ray. Anyways, I just got past the John Lennon part. I also heard rumors for possible Beatles stuff this coming season of Mad Men.
Yahoo posted an article on Mad Men-Beatles connections. Some of it seems reaching (I haven’t watched the show yet, as I’m waiting for it to end), but it’s probably a fun read for a fan.

I was in a restaurant with my mam yesterday and ‘Here Comes The Sun ‘ started playing the minute I walked again. Now at the precise moment I did am “Oh Christ ASJ you’re delusional, why the hell would they be playing a Beatles song EVERYWHERE.YOU.GO”, but then I heard the unmistakable little Moog bit (Little darling) and I was like “Feck sake, leave me alone”.
Bloody Beatles being ultra famous and making me think I’m going mental
I did sing along with it though
Here’s a cool instrumental bit of HCTS with just strings and Moog, I love the strings on HCTS so it’s my kind of heaven
How any song can possibly be that beautiful amazes me Now to stop rambling and click ‘submit reply’

There is also a gorgeous Something with isolated orchestra and organ.
How can songs be incredible when all together and when taken apart?

I do. It’s one of my favorite parts in the song. Have you heard the version of Here Comes The Sun with the “lost solo” that George recorded for it that was left out in mixing?

Right. My above post was didn’t sound right in my head so went to the books and John C Winn has the recording of HCTS as follows.
- the vocals being finished on the 8th July
- Orchestra was added on the 15th August
- Moog synth on the 19th August
Computer programming was used however to split tracks on many of the earlier songs. To give you an idea of what was done here here is an extract from the notes on A Hard Days Night, written by Helter Skelter who did stunning work on the Rock Band tracks to piece them back together and get them into how they would have been.
The moggs for this are pretty messed-up, as for the game a separate part is need for bass and drums which do not exist, this meant that the makers used ‘cedar’ extraction, a process of frequency isolation, in order to create these separate elements.
As well as this, the guitar solo and piano solo are mixed in with the guitar track.
However if we piece this back together, we can get the original 4-Tracks almost in tact.
and this is an extract of the notes for Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
As for the mogg, well where to begin… Other than the fact that the whole thing is presented in fake stereo and drenched in reverb, the wonderful people at Rockband HQ decided that it was too much to keep the sitar on a separate track, this has been combined
with the 12-string acoustic guitar track (for reasons of game play I guess), also the bass is a ‘cedar’ extraction and in my presentation has been recombined with the acoustic guitar. Some of TK3 has been cut and pasted elsewhere, but once this has been pieced back together and the bad edits ironed out we have a couple of little peaches here.
Apologies.

I meant on Something . Emerick says George wasn’t happy with his part so he wanted to record it, but they didn’t have an extra track (and couldn’t bounce for some reason), so he had to play it live with the orchestra.

Ah sorry.
For Something Winn has the vocals being completed on the 16th July, reductions then being done to create 2 tracks for the orchestra and a new guitar solo which were recorded on the 15th August. The track layout of the song is as follows:
Track 1 – Piano + Lead Guitar
Track 2 – Drums + Percussion
Tracks 3 & 4 – Orchestral Overdubs
Track 5 – Bass
Track 6 – Leslied Guitar
Track 7 – Vocals
Track 8 – Organ

My neighbour’s dog is sleeping on the couch next to me and the minute ‘Hey Bulldog ‘ came on she woke up. It was awkward when I had to tell her The Beatles wanted a Bulldog not a Labrador though
